Literally can’t believe he is the first person to come into my mind as I wake up. It’s absolutely exhausting.

It doesnt even have to be sexual; you just want the person to feel the same way about you, as you feel about them.

This is one very good reason for never remotely entertaining someone when you do not have intentions. It is not your fault if someone is limerent, but if you start giving false hope and mixed signals so you don't hurt their feelings, or in an effort to be polite that IS your fault. Never lead anyone to believe you have an interest if you do not.

I’m a 60-year-old man who met a guy 28 years younger than me on Grindr. I didn’t initiate anything at first — he was the one who kept insisting on meeting. Honestly, I thought getting involved with someone that young probably wasn’t a good idea for all the obvious reasons. Different stages of life, different energy levels, different worlds.
But we ended up meeting almost every week for seven or eight months. Deep down, I always knew nothing serious would come of it. He’s young, incredibly good-looking, full of life, and I’m an older man. I don’t think I look bad for my age — I take care of myself — but reality is reality.
Then, just after Christmas last December, he suddenly ghosted me. And by then, I was already emotionally addicted.
Now I’m dealing with limerence in the worst way imaginable. I think about him constantly. Every single day. I try not to contact him, but every now and then I still reach out, pretending to be casual, friendly, just checking in like an old friend would. He’s never rude or cruel, but I can feel the difference. He replies politely, but without the excitement or emotional investment I still have.
I’m really struggling with it. I even spoke to my doctor because the feeling is so overwhelming and strange. I never imagined I’d go through something like this at this stage of my life. I don’t feel old, but I do feel emotionally trapped, and exhausted by it. I can’t wait to have my own mind back again.
I don’t hate him, and I don’t wish him any harm at all. He’s actually a nice guy. We genuinely had a good time together. In many ways, we were both living out fantasies — his fantasy of being with an older, bearded man like me, and mine of being desired by someone young and beautiful at my age.
But when it ends, the pain is very real.

I obsess over any guy I find cute and gives me a tiny bit of attention. It’s draining.

My mother was distant and never really had time for me - so I am limerent for distant women that have no interest in me - it is hell

The day I realised I was addicted to that person is the day I was set free..

You are literally describing my whole entire life from my teenage years onwards. I’m 57 😮. My longest limerence episode lasted 9 years but there have been many, many eps ranging from a couple of months to any number of years. I’ve been in marriage, serious relationships and single while they happened. I see it as childish, primary school crush behaviour and am deeply embarrassed by it but I am glad that there is a name for it and that I’m not the only one!
