My husband was a descendant of the British Catholics who fled to Maryland on the Dove. Then, because Maryland practiced freedom of religion, unlike the rest of the colonies, the Protestants moved in, took over, and repressed the Catholics again, sending many Catholics fleeing to Kentucky. My side of the family is Irish, escaping famine because of the Protestant starving the Irish out of their own land. My family has remained Catholic in the freedom of American, for who knows how many centuries. I am so proud of our American ancestors.

Historians have always known this. The genetics just add a layer of interest. The Puritans, for example, also came from the Netherlands. The Germanic settlers in Pennsylvania came from specific regions.

One of my 8th great grampa's founded Georgetown Maryland. Ninian Beall. And another 8th great grampa is Robert Rose out of Ipswich,England on The Francis with his wife and 8 children. They ended up in Connecticut.

Governor Thomas West was my 9th great grandfather! I wouldn’t doubt that Governor Thomas Greene is kin because I have 3 Thomas Greene’s in my line.
