  My dads parents came from southern Norway, and I’m told that there were Samis that were in the southern part of the country. Historically, one child in a family would often carry on the characteristics of these people, and my dad was that child in his family. His father came to the us due to poverty. We live in the midwest. As an adult, I moved to Arizona and when I saw specifically Navajo people, I thought these are like my people because they looked like my dad: long torso, broad cheekbones, dark skin, black hair, prominent nose, but my dad had white/blond hair that turned black after childhood and blue eyes, like many of these people pictured here. <br>Several years ago, a museum in Santa Fe had an exhibit on how clothes in the sami community were used as a political statement. It was fascinating and did a trade via an organization was set up where some Samis from Northern Scandinavia came to the southwest and some Navajo’s went to northern Scandinavia to share their cultures and similarities. It was fascinating.

  I live in Brazil and found Sami’s DNA, it was a pleasure surprise for me because I also have Brazilian indigenous DNA but I already knew it because my grand grandmother was a Bugre (South American natives) and DNA identified perfectly the location. Turns out I’m a mixed of European ( Portuguese, Italian, French, Scandinavian, Sami, black, South American native) although I look like an European white man. How amazing is genotypes.

  We are an Alaskan family &nbsp;and on my Father’s side we are Sami. I look very much like this part of my ancestry. I am also an Amundsen.

  Great overview of these people. I used to travel to Sweden on business and often used to go to museums in Stockholm and the one museum is dedicated to the Sami and I found their history fascinating. They deserve their rightful place in Scandinavia. I had colleague’s there of Sami descent who I really respected and got on with really well.

  I am not surprised they have Siberian DNA.. I have some Alaskan inuit friends and I can see the resemblance between Sami and inuits, who came over the ancient ice bridge from Siberia.
