People don't realize if you go back 7 generations you got 256 grandparents. You have all these surnames in you genealogy. I have Scots/Irish, English,French, German, Dutch,Scandinavian, Irish, Native American. May ancestors came to the Colonies in 1600s to about 1700s. Massachusetts, New Amsterdam, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina. I think it honors our ancestors to search for them /genealogy. They came to America with nothing. 80% that came in the 1600s and 1700s were indentured servants. They were tough, rugged people.

Honestly, this gave me chills. Makes you realize how much history we still don’t fully understand.

As a lowland Scot (Ayrshire) who had lived in the US most of my life this seems obvious. The west coast of Scotland was home to Viking raids over centuries. It’s very easy to pinpoint specific raids, settlements and inbreeding. It seems natural that this genetic heritage would appear in families that moved from Scots Irish Ulster to Appalachia. The isolation of the mountains kept that lineage mostly unsullied. I don’t see why this seems extraordinary.

I was able to trace my husband’s genealogy back to 617 in Scotland, where his ancestors where Highlanders from one of the McDonald clans all the way to how they came to Ireland then immigrated to the United States. His G-G-G Uncle fought in the Civil War in the NC Infantry. Then they settled in Tennessee, where his family ended up today. Great history.

Don't forget that many Scots were shipped to the Americas as indentured servants and prisoners during the Jacobite uprisings.

My Scottish ancestors arrived in Americas in 1778. Found their homes in North Carolina and in Gwinnett County Ga. Our history is so fascinating

My mother who was born in 1928...didn't have a lot to say about where her people were from...just that we were from "everywhere". But one thing that stood out to me in this video...SHE TOLD ME....Black Dutch. I thought (at the time I was probably 13 or so)...was Amish or something because she said they came to America through Pennsylvania then moved down. My people (both sides) began coming to America in the 1600's.

Not a conspiracy. The dna just takes us deeper than 1000 years but all the way back to 300,000 years. 1000 years would have our Viking dna, 1500, our Anglo-Saxon, 2000 our Celtic and further Beeker, etc. Interesting but not a hidden secret.

DNA is so interesting. I took the Ancestry DNA test and found out my ancestors came from: Scotland, Northern Ireland/Ireland, England, Wales, Germany, Southern Germanic Europe (Austria), Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Brittany.
