  I am a hopefully soon to be unemployed lawyer with 12 years of experience….. I hate this job…Also, LinkedIn makes me want to vomit

  When I was young, my mother used to repeat the same lesson to me: “Always choose your environment carefully. It’s stronger than you, and it will shape you without you even noticing.” &nbsp;<br><br>She meant everything — the friends you choose, the conversations you have, the work you do, the people you surround yourself with. It took me a long time for that wisdom to really sink in. But when I look back at the events in my life, and even at what happened to some of my friends, I realized she was right all along.<br><br>So when you talk about how social media shapes our world, and how the current work environment influences people’s thinking and behavior, I think your observations are spot on.

  People are exhausted, fatigue, always on edge due fear of losing their rights, their jobs, their homes, their lives. &nbsp; &nbsp;Everyone feels that things are unfair and that there is no one to go to for help or solutions and that things will get worse. &nbsp;It&apos;s fear and helplessness so they have no energy to give. My opinion.

  Some companies have slogans &quot;be yourself&quot;, &quot;bring true yourself&quot;, etc. But in reality that behaviour is punished and sycophancy is rewarded.

  Millennial here, you’ve hit the nail on the head. I’ve worked in financial services in the U.K. for 15 years and I always get into trouble as I’m unable to conform to the corporate structure, always say what comes naturally rather than what the corporate drones do. It’s worse now definitely and almost impossible to make a meaningful connection inside or outside of work.

  Worked in corporate for 25 years but always as an observer of human behavior. I was not really the corporate type at all and I told my friends that even though I hated all the corporate games, I was at the same time interested in watching how people acted within this setting. Like a sociology study. How people work in teams, who gets promoted, how leaders act, who complains about the leaders, accountability, etc.. I learned a lot about human behavior. Now that I am no longer in corporate and sort of shed off all the influences, I can spot a corporate person a mile away. Outside of work like they can&apos;t get rid of the mask. They think it is legit. The language they use, the clothes they wear, the cars they drive, the way they walk, the way they interact with you. It is clear as day to me their identities have been taken over. I see it as a sort of programed robot to act a certain way to solve the problem of winning. This would mean keep the job, getting the raise, managing perceptions, win the deal, don&apos;t get fired.

  one of the things that shocked me about corporate america was the requirement to track your own performance while you are doing your job. &nbsp;You&apos;re doing your job, and a meta job at the same time. &nbsp;Then you are supposed to track how you track how you&apos;re doing your job. &nbsp;also, tracking the time you take on each task. &nbsp;It&apos;s like you are expected to be your own manager and supervisor while also doing the task you were hired to do.

  I’m Gen Z, currently a delivery driver so I meet tons of people daily. SO many people I deliver to have this feeling as though they have no soul, little to no communication skills and its typically the older customers.<br>I’ve had one where the customer came out the back gate UP TO me, saw I had a parcel for him, he went back inside then looked at me through the window in a ‘why haven’t you put the parcel on the doorstep’ way..

  I am gen-X and I am deeply concerned to see people walking... most with their face on their phones, but also, simply the face down, as beaten up, and what I noticed: folks looking straight ahead when walking, no expression, empty eyes and the drooping facial muscles and jaw. Phenomenons that I never saw 10-20+ years ago. This is not a feature of perception because of age, this is so real!

  I read The Catcher in the Rye for the first time last year. The part that really resonated with me was the main character identifying so many people as “phony”.
