  I hate corporate i can't take this shit anymore. Everyday one's anxiety grows bigger and bigger can't even think of having a life or starting a family or buying a house coz tomorrow u can lose your damn job. Can't believe a drug dealer has now more job security than my stupid 20 years IT career.

  Just remember folks, whenever "business leaders" claims there is a job shortage in their field, it's because they don't pay an adequate wage for the work. The CEO of Ford Motor Company said Ford dealerships are short thousands of mechanics. Why? Because their starting average national wage for their entry level technicians is $15/hr. The McDonalds near me is starting people at $17

  The adult daycare jobs are essentially gone.  Asking everyone to do trades is like asking everyone to play the violin.  It's just not going to happen.

  I'm tired of this hustle culture stuff. Why can't I just work a job and be content? Not everyone wants to be a disruptor, or have the resources to do so. Bottom line they changed the rules for the younger generation in real time. You go into debt by getting a college degree, and can't even find a job in your discipline, let's not even talk about how you can't even get a bridge job because the call centers and fast food joints are saying you're overqualified now. Situation sucks all around

  There’s a YouTube channel called Tyler he’s been documenting what’s it’s been like to be a young person applying for CS jobs in this current age. His latest vid called “existence is just pain and suffering” was really heartbreaking to watch. I know you shouldn’t tie all your self worth to your job but when you have studied for this supposedly stable career and can’t find employment it’s devastating.

  I think a lot of people are still stuck in the get a degree, get a job, stay there mindset. That model worked before, but it’s clearly breaking down now.

  I feel like the hard truth that people aren&apos;t facing is just how corporations are making people&apos;s jobs so untenable that they quit, the government and corporations are making everyday life just as or even worse, hoping that people will equally start opting out or not continuing the family line. &nbsp;The elite wants more AI and less meat bodies, simple as that.

  I work in technology consulting for a well-known, major consulting company and 90-95% of the challenges are not the technology side -- it is the people side. Finding out what the requirements are, where the data is, what the definitions are at present and what they should be like in the future in light of all the other system changes that are in process. It&apos;s a lot like trying to organize a kitchen junk drawer or untangle a huge, complicated ball of string where human input is needed.<br><br>Every organization things they are special and unique, but they all have their own problems and difficulties. <br><br>I&apos;m utterly sick of the AI hype and hope the overwhelming hype we are in the midst of will blow over as soon as the cost of tokens is no longer artifically subsidized. Then, I&apos;m trying to hang on this crazy ride fro 5 more years and then retire. <br><br>I&apos;m sick of it.

  I think the generational point is important. Millennials and Gen Z are trying to build stability in an environment that keeps changing the rules, while Gen Alpha is growing up in a system where this instability might just feel normal.

  Nah, general software development skills have always been a risky place to sit as you age. Offshoring, onshoring, young blood ... its always been a better bet to get (and maintain) a general development skillset but after 5-10 years experience try and specialise. Specialism is where you can build on experience, like other professions. In general software development without specialism, you&apos;re as good as the last few years of tech - and you are competing with younger guys on speed, not experience - you will lose on speed as you age. So, get specialised so you can compete on experience where you stand a chance of winning. One way is to get a Comp Sci degree, then start work, find some hard topic you like (eg. Finance), then do a Masters in that subject. Then on-the-job learn hard specialist material related to that topic so you become a niche software developer. You want a 3 pronged skillset. (1) sharp dev skills, (2) domain knowledge - eg. banking, (3) specialist software knowledge, eg. certain properietary banking systems (that are not openly documented - therefore AI is blind to this). This, i believe is more sustainable going forward as it&apos;s a lot harder to compete at this level. Do not stay in the shrinking general dev pool. Avoid skills that can be learned at home, you want niche skills that cannot be sucked into AI because the documentation is on the web.
