Money doesn't buy happiness, but it DOES pay off a lot of unhappiness that you can't remove without money.

I retired TODAY after 43 years of IT life.   The last 6 years have been a rollercoaster.  Company bought out 3 times.  Health insurance is now a complete joke with families paying 15K a year in deductible and co-pays.  Layoffs at least 2 times a year.  I'm so thankful I invested well and at age 61 I can remove myself from the cancer of US corporations outsourcing every American they can to India.    I remember my Grandfather telling me 20 years ago "Son I don't care how many degrees you have, one day they are going to send your job abroad just like they did my textile job I worked at 50 years".  I thought he was crazy.  He was just wise!

I just want to feel what it is like to wake up not thinking about work.

True freedom is waking up and NOT having to work for money.

I was a healthcare professional who had an above average income.  Three years ago, I chose to leave the workforce forever.  I have zero regrets for going into early retirement.  I miss the connections that I had with my patients, but not enough to give up the freedom that I enjoy now.  I am not wealthy, but my basic needs are covered.  I have a new purpose in life, and it is simply to live as long as possible.  I am thriving and living my best life and don't want it to end.  I guess I'm built different, because full autonomy suits me.  My typical day is full but never forced or rushed.  Remember, we are all different and you must discover what makes you happy.

Mate, this has been your best video yet. A true vision of life, not the typical video in youtube.

Well said. I probably prioritized family time a little too much and it hurt financially. But those morning struggles doing pony tails while watching Kim Possible are golden memories now.

It took me working and getting the big house, the fancy cars to realize that material things don’t bring happiness. It’s community and socializing that bring happiness. In fact success can be isolating. If you live in a big house on top of a hill it can be lonely  vs living in a neighborhood amongst people who are a like you.

The only reason you can allow yourself to contemplate these questions that you are addressing is BECAUSE you have your own time. My old job gave me a Reason to get up in the morning, but it didn't give my life Purpose. Now that I am retired, I see that my life's Purpose is to learn as much about the things that are important to me as I can. My brain is sooooo happy lately! I never had time for that before, nor did I have time to even figure it out.

The biggest misconception is that happiness should be a permanent state of being. Happiness is just an emotion like any other, a chemical release in the brain. People confuse contentment with happiness.
