  The only thing making you unhappy are your own thoughts. Change them. Switch mental channels.The more hobbies and interests you have, the more interesting life surely is. Practice acceptance, gratitude, positivity, and hopefulness daily. 🌞😊🌻

  Expatriates often flee their homelands, seeking to outrun the repercussions of past choices. Yet, as the adage goes, "wherever you go, there you are." The self cannot be left behind, and invariably, one's mindset recreates the very conditions they sought to escape, casting familiar shadows across foreign soils.

  The expat blues is closely related to the retirement blues, where you go from being busy and feeling needed to having no responsibility and doing nothing. The only difference is that you also have social disconnection, language divide and a heap of other challenges to deal with.

  The retirement blues is a real thing. I had it pretty bad when I first retired , couldn't understand why I felt so angry and miserable. Seeing my wife so upset because she couldn't help me snapped me out of it.  Then I realised that each day was mine to do as I please.  I'm very happy now and wouldn't change my situation for anything.

  I've met early retired expats over there from Europe & US, it's not so much they don't have enough money, but not enough purpose

  I live in Bangkok, and those neighborhoods are familiar. &nbsp;I just had dinner there a few days ago. &nbsp;I&apos;m not miserable, but I am partly isolated. &nbsp;I have a family, so I have meaningful connections, and positive personal experiences, but the friends I&apos;ve made come and go over time. &nbsp;I was just thinking yesterday about how it&apos;s sad that my own country, the US, doesn&apos;t experience the same lively public social spaces now. &nbsp;The cultures and many experience contexts were always different but in my younger days, the 80s and 90s, mall spaces brought people out to gather in public, and before that in small towns downtown strips served a similar purpose.

  Advice: if ypu have sound investments for retirement in your home country, don&apos;t transfer all of them to the country to emigrate to. Just try to live off the interest or modest withdrawals, have those withdrawals transferred to your foreign account, and leave the principle alone in your parent country.

  Having traveled Southeast Asia I have observed older guys who seemingly hang out at bars almost all day and look pretty miserable and haggard. I suppose it is mainly a matter of a lack of purpose in life. Being retired and sitting around drinking beer can seem attractive, but I would argue it is only fun and nice for a short while.

  No matter where you go in the world one thing never changes: &nbsp;It&apos;s always YOU that is there. &nbsp;If you can&apos;t find any place you enjoying being, what is it that you really don&apos;t like? &nbsp;/ &nbsp;The visuals during your walk was really nice.
