  I went to Phi Phi Island in 1986 for the first time as a tour guide and it was heaven. Just a few small tourist boats a day from Phuket for an hour or two, no hotels or restaurants, just a few huts. Paradise. I went back in 2023 and I almost got a heart attack. Tourism has destroyed a small piece of paradise on earth 😢

  I found Koh Lipe more like the way Phi Phi used to be before the tsunami. &nbsp;When I saw a McDonalds and Starbucks on Phi Phi, I left the next day.

  Its very easy to connect to travellers in SE Asia because everyone is so excited, open, accepting and the vibe is high. There&apos;s something about the area, perhaps its exotic enough for people to not be reminded of home and everyone just lets go of their hangups and predjudices. Its like you are all on adventure together and you become part of the tribe. I dont really know how to explain it really. Something energetic.
