  Women can work to stop mothering, but men also need to work on not expecting their wives to act like their mom but not want to feel mothered.

  You&apos;ve helped me realize that my first marriage didn&apos;t work because my ex wanted to be mothered. I walked on eggshells while he tried to change me to do the things you describe here. He wanted a mother. I wanted a man.

  This is one of the main reasons why &nbsp;my 29 year marriage died. &nbsp;3 years later I started a relationship with a fearful avoidant and I replayed the pattern of mothering. &nbsp;Now at 63 I hope I can get the chance to shift my pattern in a new relationship.

  I don&apos;t ever do silent treatment it&apos;s toxic I&apos;ve had it done to me. I go quiet because I am thinking about my own heart and health plus I don&apos;t like to engage and get in a back and forth of disrespectful behaviour anger and mindless arguments. I crave peace not chaos

  Ladies listen to him!! I learned the hard way. Save yourself or you relationship before it&apos;s too far gone.... wish I had this years ago. I overgave, over compensated, had terrible boundaries, all unconsciously. Yes due to trauma and old patterns and upbringing. It takes a lot of accountability to do the inner work. But it&apos;s so worth it.
