My small R-22 Carrier is 54 years old and finally needs repairs. Installing a capacitor today to get the fan going again. These old units were built to last.

We have one system running 40 years strong manufactured in 1986. Two years ago we added a couple ounces of R22 and got a new fan motor instead of the $20,000 replacement that was proposed.

You can make an a/c last forever if you put parts on it when needed. Ask me how I know. We go 60 years out of an old 'Sears' system.

today fixed my 30 year old Coleman 2-ton R22 home system running - new cap and contactor, new connectors on all wires - vent temp 54F :)

pushing 37 years on a 2+ ton Lennox HS18 right now with zero service performed aside from coil cleaning in past 12 years - condenser on north side under 30" eaves in Beaverton Oregon

Number one is keep the coils clean. Next is to use pan antibacterial tablets in the front and back pans. Change the filter or clean the filter every 2 to 3 weeks
