  One tip, hold your pale upside-down with your back to the oncoming sea. Drop the bucket (pale), and as it hits the water, have the line to your hand short enough that it starts the bucket tipping to seaward. It&apos;ll then scoup a bucket of water up. The way you&apos;re doing this &apos;dragging the bucket in to the flow&apos; can pull it out of your hand or break the bucket hoop. 40 odd years on trawlers comes in handy 😂✌️❤🇬🇧🙏👍

  Man, I love the sound that old two stroke makes. Original ship, original engine, getting ready to run booze up from Mexico. This is literally something from the prohibition era. But about a century later. This whole saga is absolutely epic.

  Proffessional shipwright here, saved quite a few old wood boats from the fire, but i had an old sardine carrier with really similar lines to your boat, and she had very little prop walk, her rudder was quite a bit bigger than yours though, id highly recommend enlarging the rudder. &nbsp;Many of these old boats were designed for very skilled sailors, people who grew up sailing these heavy workboats, they wanted best sailing performance, and docking facilities were set up much better for them. &nbsp;No shame in adjusting the design slightly to fit modern conditions: idiots on power boats swooping into the space you are in the middle of manouvering through, they just dont understand how a heavy boat moves.

  I love this engine. It reminds me of the tractor my dad got for our farm in Saskatchewan, Canada in the 1960&apos;s. It was a German Lanz Bulldog that used the hot-bulb Akroyd engine. Huge similarities. She had adjustable covers over the bulb that you ran wide open while working but had to close for any prolonged idle or it cooled off too much and died. The flywheel had finger grips so you would bounce it back and forth between compression spots and hit the manual injector handle at just the right second to fire it up in the right direction, after heading up the bulb with a tiger torch. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lanz_Bulldog

  Although Danish flagged the Brigantine Neptun was originally built in Germany. She also was a result of the design and development process that resulted in the KFK. So she is closely related to Tres Hombres and Flying Coney but a little bit smaller. Your ship, built as a Haikutter was one of the first class of vessels where a sailing ship hull was adapted to accommodate an engine. Neptun, Tres and Coney have basically sailing ship hulls but optimized for an engine. Most ships built after that period are designed as motor vessels wich makes them terrible sailing ships. I hope you find that interesting.

  As far as I know, it’s the third engine in that vessel. I can’t remember the first one, but I think it was a 45 hp, then a 120 hp during the war, and last the current 90 hp. I don’t like that it smokes this much when it’s not under load. You might need to take a look at the rings to see if it’s burning too much lubrication oil.
