A little tip from an old engineer, cut a 45 degree angle to each end of the gland packing and stagger the joints.

I'm a wooden boat neophyte, but what I've learned from these videos is that keeping a boat like this running is 10% carpentry, 10% antique engineering, and 80% pushing various goops, fibers and schmoo into gaps and seams.

That is a beautiful boat. Nothing compares to a wooden boat, there's just something romantic about them.

Congratulations on getting her back in the water!!! So happy to see a gorgeous classic vessel getting that needed love to bring her back to great condition. That hard work you've all put in has really paid off, and it shows! She is going to be the bell of the ball in the whole of Puget Sound!

With installing gland packing set joints at 12/6/3/9 o'clock and if the packing is a tight fit lightly tap the packing thinner so it slides in and as you set the gland lightly nip the nuts so as to push the packing back the outer diameter. Yes always let the gland drip while it runs. Cheers from Australia.

Finally a healthy way to use Crisco! Do anything but eat it.

I’ve had one of those packing gland removal, corkscrew tools in a toolbox for 20 years and never known what the hell it was. You learn something every day.

Nick you definitely have one of the most interesting boats on the internet, pulling people into your project the way you do is very dynamic🎉

I'm not the type who's into cars, machines and the like, but I'm sort of in love with Argonaut's engine. Could watch and listen an hour!

Great work! She's looking fantastic. I'm glad to see you taking such good care of her.
