  Yes Carol, a period is a class period. When I was in school they were around 50 minutes. We did not have breaks. There was usually 5 minutes between classes. Time enough to get from one classroom to another. We had 7 periods and a lunch hour.

  My high school in Wisconsin started at 7:45am and ended at 3:15 pm. We had 7 classes and a half hour lunch; we had 5 minutes in between classes to go to locker or run to restroom. It was grades 9-12 and majority of kids were ages 14-18. Everyone was mandated to study another language for 2 years (Spanish, French or German).

  This is in North Carolina. They would normally have a really big cafeteria with different foods and cooks and things like that, but they were remodeling the cafeteria when he filmed this.

  He&apos;s got another video that is also a good representation of a normal day. There is no federal curriculum or standards. Education is local. Standards are set on a state level and everything else is down to the local school district. 2 schools across town might start at different times, might get out on different days for their holiday breaks, and have different daily operating schedules.<br><br>For some comparison, I was on a block schedule so we only had 4 classes a day for a semester. The next semester you&apos;d get a different set like how classes are at college. Each class was an hour and 45 minutes. Electives (like band, PE, art, etc..) would meet every other day so you could take a couple of them. We were at school 8 - <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDLSXxIXqkQ&amp;t=220">3:40</a>. We had an advisement (aka homeroom) period in the morning where they&apos;d take attendance and first class started at <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDLSXxIXqkQ&amp;t=510">8:30</a>. We also had a break between 1st and 2nd periods.

  This is in North Carolina less than two hrs from me. <br>School are much different than from when I was a kid.

  This is my niece&apos;s school. It&apos;s a decent school in a peaceful neighborhood. Max is a very polite kid
