  The warmth between Max, his friends and his teacher surprised me more than the classrooms or the size of the school. What part of your own high school day—coffee, classes, lunch or friendships—would have looked different where you grew up?

  Do you remember the boy showing the peanut butter bagel that he made for his lunch? That was lunch period. Some take their lunches, many get what the school cafeteria offers.

  How kids get to school usually depends on distance, age or if you were in early primary school and if your in city/suburb or remote rural areas as the most common factors. My high school was 7 miles from my home, all rural country roads with no sidewalks or street lights so the bus was your only way unless you missed the bus and a family member dropped you off or for my high school a good amount of students once they were 16 drove to school, many of which had after school jobs so they would drive to work after school or stayed late at school for sports, band or what ever extra curricular activity you were in, my school had it's own radio station, I had my radio operating license and was on air after school, I also did set design for school musicals and plays that we did after school, I also helped my art teachers with things and was in the band and choir rooms as well. Up until I was 11, we moved a lot with my dad's work and I was changing schools each year, we lived in several places where I walked to school everyday. There is no one single way all American students do anything including going to school, too many variables

  HR is home room, It is the teacher that is mainly in charge of you, they see different teachers in different rooms all day.

  High school is 14-18 years old.  Chapel Hill is in North Carolina.  There are some similarities and consistencies across public schools but a lot of variation depending on the state.

  There are many more "Day in the Life of an American High School student" videos that go much more in depth. You'd be very interested to see that schools are different in every state, in subtle ways. The videos I have seen have all been affluent kids from suburban areas with great funding. Not all areas have this luxury.

  "AP" = This student is in Advanced Placement. Some US schools have students classified by scholastic performance. Highest to Lowest: AP Advanced Placement, CP College Preparation, S Standard, R Remedial.

  If you want to know what it all boils down to is that the typical public and most private schools are garbage.<br>Just check the nation-wide testing stats.<br>They are horrific.<br>And that kid’s comment that they don’t do the pledge anymore speaks volumes about his school’s values.

  High school in America is from 9th to 12th Grade so the ages range from as young as 14 to as old as 18.

  That computer class was likely the yearbook class. Each high school has a class where students can learn the ins and outs about professional printing, advertising, photography all for the schools yearbook. They are responsible for taking photos, compiling the photos with graphics and text, getting business spots of advertisements, and they actually are responsible for drafting and creating the printed yearbook. I am not sure if you have those in Europe, but they are filled with each grade class student photos/name, the teachers, the basketball team, the football team, cheer teams, color guard, band, choir, cross country, weight lifting, auto shop, track and field, soccer, hockey, and all the social clubs and society groups. The books are purchased by the students and at the end of each year. They will pass their yearbook around to all their friends, teachers, and classmates to have them sign it. They will often be a funny anecdote, a joke, or offering encouragement and well wishes for their summer vacation breaks, but everyone generally writes that you were cool, and they really liked having &quot;that&quot; class with you. I have all my yearbooks still from Junior High to graduation in Senior High, and they are some of my precious treasures I open occasionally to take a walk down memory lane..
