  I'm gonna be 40 soon but no one ever talks about the blessing of outgrowing the feeling that you need to collect 'em all, or that you owe people pretty, like it's all some competition.  Be clean, be respectful, be kind, and show up.  The rest is noise.

  When my mother passed away five years ago, the amount of unused merchandise that I found in her house was unbelievable. My mother would go shopping every time she was having a manic episode. I found hundreds of unwatched DVDs. Boxes and boxes of makeup. Shoes never worn. Plastic dishes and cups from Walmart never used. Bags and bags of tchotchkes she would buy from Target as well. It took me weeks to get her house cleaned out. All of these people in these videos are going to be doing the same thing to their kids in the next 30 to 40 years.

  A long long time ago I wanted to buy a LV wallet. I called my mom and asked her thoughts and she asked me "do you want to own a 500 dollar wallet with no money inside, or keep your current wallet with money in it?" I chose to keep my money.
