  I went to a funeral today. Everyone spoke of the man's generosity & charity. Nobody mentioned anything he had ever purchased.

  I’m starting to see overconsumption as no different than drug addiction, alcohol addiction, food addiction or gambling addiction. Pressing that checkout button gives them a temporary high.

  Someone, of my age, once told me that he received three gifts from "Santa" every year. One year it was: Something he needed (a new winter coat); something he wanted (a radio); something he didn't expect (a technical book). Most years gifts were modest, but the same formula applied.

  I've noticed a weird habit I've developed this year: watching videos about people's overconsumption causes me to purge stuff later in the day. I'm not consuming much, but seeing overconsumption triggers disgust in having things I don't use, knowing some people buy more than they'll ever need in their lives.

  I&apos;ve been unemployed for a while and living off savings while looking for a job. I&apos;m pretty good with money but would shop here and there when I had a job. Since having no income and not buying anything extra I&apos;ve realised how little I actually need and how meaningless everything actually is. And the push from companies to buy buy buy is sickening. You don&apos;t realise until you take that step back
