That’s the kicker at the end of the movie. Kyle said John gave him a picture and she looked a little sad. He always wondered what she was thinking. Turns out she was thinking about Kyle.

Fun fact. James Cameron the director did not have any permits to film in most of the locations throughout the film so that's why a lot of the movie take place at night time. The scenes were quickly set up ahead of time and they'd shoot the scenes as fast as possible and quickly leave before real police seen or showed up.

Remember. CGI did not exist for the first Terminator, or Alien. All were practical effects. And for an audience to see such work in the huge dark packed theater in those days, when you could not just invent stuff and make it appear, made it all the more real. Both movies had a lot of screaming in the theater. I remember those nights well.

Kyle did not know he was Connor's Father. His mission was to Guard Sarah Connor with his life until John Connor was born. Kyle would have likely married Sarah if he had lived (being a Classic One Woman Man and having chosen the one already).
