  After Shakira had that massive hit &apos;la tortura&apos; in the US market, artists and producers realized singing in english did not matter and continued producing mega hits in spanish. Media just stopped covering it. Wisin Yandel, don omar, plan b, gente de zona, Maluma.. etc all had mega hits after hits in us urban market in early 2000s. Look at Becky g with por el contrario few years back, it was a mega streaming hit in US but american media put her and artists like Peso, Nodal squarely in the latin box.

  One thing this video fails to recognize is that Latin America, and specifically Mexico, had it&apos;s own long-standing Pop music scene that had been developing for at least 3 decades before the so-called &quot;Latin Boom.&quot; Translating pop songs into Spanish had been happening years before American artists and producers jumped on that bandwagon.

  Im sorry but latin music has not failed. its &nbsp;bigger then ever. it depend were you are in the world. but it has become main stream music, not just summer hits.

  I believe after the world was (and STILL is) in mourning over Selena&apos;s TRAGIC death, Latin music seemed to explode merely as a trend in the late &apos;90s and early 2000s. However, Gloria Estefan and Jon Secada were my childhood FAVES in the 80s and 90s. ❤<br>Latin music is one of my FAVORITE musical genres whether it&apos;s popular in the mainstream or not. 😊

  I don’t think Latin music needs a boom really. It’s always been here and we hear it in movies, shows and commercials. Even iPhone ringtones.

  I never understood why Jlo is included on these Latin crossover.... Jlo never had to &quot;cross over&quot;, she is born in the US, grew up speaking and singing in English, that&apos;s very different from artists like Shakira or Ricky who grew up in Hispanic households, speaking a whole number language who had to learn to write and sing in English.

  Marc Anthony, Enrique Iglesias, and Ricky Martin were my trinity. I miss the Latin explosion of the 00s; I think it died because everyone was having a go - even Geri Halliwell - and the music was beginning to lose its authenticity. Jon Secada released Stop, but by then no one was interested, which was a shame.<br><br>EDIT: I wrote all this before watching the video.
