These are facts. I recently completed a move from FL to a 55+ community in Chester county PA. I'm enjoying little to no maintenance, lower car and home insurance, lower HOA fees, lower utilities, etc. I still have access to great shopping, cultural activities, nature, and great restaurants. I'm a 15 minute drive to Amtrak, giving me easy access to NYC, DC, and Boston. I will gladly endure 3 months of winter to get away from 7 months of heat and humidity. Plus PHL offers non-stop flights to just about any place I want to go - worldwide. No regrets.

Not a fan of 55 plus communities. Here in Allentown, they are hideously overpriced for the square footage. Construction quality varies, but is generally low. One of my friends bought into one. His words "the builders should be prosecuted as criminals. Then there's the busy body HOAs who will walk up to your porch and count your flowerpots. Not for me!

A huge way that Harrisburg could boost retirement in PA would be to eliminate the inheritence tax or put a large exclusion on it.

A reminder, the property tax in PA is quite high. A townhouse with market value around 450k is taxed 7k+.
