To those who bought this and found their display and controls aren’t responding— don’t panic. Open the player by unscrewing the 4 screws underneath its yellow foot. Now flip the player and use a plastic pry, to pry open the body from the edges. You will find a white ribbon cable detached from the board. Use your finger nail or the same pry tool to gently flip the hinge adapter (it is sensitive). Now align the blue end of the ribbon cable above the metal connectors inside the adapter (place it as far as it can go). Close the hinge adapter gently. Check if the cable is not loose (tap it to see if it will detach easily). Once that is done, check the display by turning on the device. Once successfully completed, assemble it back again. The whole process takes about 15mins tops.

Finally, someone made a video on the regular model. I could only find reviews for the ultra model.

Thanks for the video review! I am interested in this model, mostly because I greatly prefer a clear-windowed design and do not need all the extra features of the ultra version. I could only find reviews, however, for the utlra version and not this one. So I'm grateful you've just posted this!

The disc speed changes due to the formats constant linear velocity. Simply has to do with how much real estate the pits and lands take as the carriage moves to the outer portion of the disc.

I have no sound, does the sound card have something to do with it?

I have the D-33 model from Sony! It's a really good quality at that time, although it doesn't have an anti-shock protection at that time until the mid 90's. Lol. Only thing I did with that model was replacing the spindle hub. Obviously why is was skipping constantly.

Id hang on to the box and especially the poster,  kept folded up inside.  Back in the 1970's and 80's I regretted putting up my vinyl record  provided posters on my bedroom wall.   The Beatles  white album,  Pink Floyd's   Dark Side Of The Moon   being the most iconic  only to have my mother do a room cleanup unannounced  and turf them out while I'm at school or work.  The fate of many classic now collectible posters.

It's very cool looking cd player as whole cd is showing. Old portables had just a window, and other ones were completely closed. That D-33 is a champ by the way. It was from that time when Sony used quality components, and as result those still work. After that Sony used worse quality components and many newer models won't work today. What I don't like of these modern players, is that batteries are built-in. That reduces longevity of the product greatly for many people. And what about electronics. Sony D-33 is from 1991 and still works (quality capacitors 👍). I doubt this Moondrop would be working after 34 years. Still it's pretty player. Great video! 💯

I remember warnings about the laser in Sony manuals, there's a reason the door must be closed before the unit starts.
