  She is one of VERY few successful Contraltos out there. And few have come close to stepping in her shoes. Cher, Nina Simone, Tracy Chapman and the incomparable Annie Lennox. Karen had a way of singing that just made it feel like she was singing to ONLY YOU. I grew up with her music and miss her terribly. Watch a few of her videos drumming, she was also an incredibly underrated drummer!

  Karen claimed she was a drummer who could also sing. Her drumming is world class. You might want to catch one of her video's doing a drum solo. Richard's arrangements and harmonies with Karen are  always beautiful,  Their song "We've Only Just Begun" should be next on your list.

  Karen sings her own harmony, Richard pioneered over dubbing having Karen sing each part on separate recorded tracks, then layering them together on the final cut. Also used the harmony tracks for live show performances.

  One of her absolute masterpieces is "Superstar"..... but then everything they did was a masterpiece.  Their friends had written lyrics and gave the words to them to see if they could make something out of it and we got the song, "Merry Christmas Darling", which is so beautiful I tear up every time I hear it during the holidays.  What they did with music was like painting scenes in your mind that you never forget.  They were that good.  Don't forget to check out her drum solos from 1976 where you will see her personality really shine.
