  When my daughter was six years old, she came to me and told me she was feeling down but didn&apos;t have any reason to feel down. I told her she might feel better if she listened to a sad song, ironically, and I suggested this song specifically, which she had never heard before. Of course, the song describes exactly what she was feeling. A little while later, I saw her singing along to this same Carpenters video on her computer. She told me she was very happy, and the song helped her express what she was feeling.<br>&quot;Song Sung Blue&quot;, by Neil Diamond, describes how a sad song can do this when you&apos;re sad, and make you feel better. Happiness isn&apos;t always found by chasing &quot;happy&quot; feelings. Sometimes, you need to go through sadness to feel happy again.

  &quot;One-take Karen,&quot; way back in the day the sweet girl next door who just happened to have a voice like a warm blanket on a cool evening. Over four decades later and those of us &quot;vintage&quot; folks still find it hard to believe she died so young.

  One of the best descriptions of depression, ever. There&apos;s no reason. Just down. And the description of someone who is supportive but doesn&apos;t try to talk it out or &quot;fix&quot; it. Perfect.<br>Carpenters songs are always more complex than would be expected from a &quot;simple&quot; pop song. Richard Carpenter was a genius arranger.

  I don’t think I went to a wedding in the 70s that didn’t play We’ve Only Just Begun. The Carpenters were iconic and Karen’s voice touches your soul.

  I sang on stage with Karen Carpenter!! &nbsp;They were doing a concert in my town and had a song in which they used a children&apos;s chorus. They used the choir at my school, so we practiced for a couple of weeks and did the concert. &nbsp;It was pretty cool!! I was in the 5th or 6th grade way back then. Thanks for your reaction!
