Great video. I had no idea about the Sega Nomad. The Genesis was my first console as a kid. I remember a neighbor kid let me borrow his Sega Game Gear, which i thought was the only Sega handheld back then.

We had a Nomad as a kid and that thing was great!

I had to look up the year, 1990, 5 years prior to the Nomad, the Turbo Express was the portable TG-16 that supported all HuCard games. Had either one succeeded, perhaps Nintendo would have attempted the portable with console-cart support or console-level games.

I saw the Nomad at Toys Я Us, but I passed on it and bought a Genesis 3 instead.

You go through the “only the wrong” section at the end without reiterating the compatibility issues and weight/size constraints (including add-ons shifting the balance).

For some reason your video reminded me of Ahoy

The battery sled which required 6 AA batteries was included, the external battery pack (that had its own rechargeable battery) was a separate purchase, as mentioned later in the video

I had the Nomad and it was awesome. I was still at the age of going to friend's to play games. Guess what, if my friend didn't have a Genesis I had one that was easy to bring over. Sure battery life stunk, but a rechargable pack helped. It was just sweet to have a portable Sega.

Great bit of history. If they’d have left it burning a bit longer, sega could have been on to a real winner
