  For what it worth. I was taught to put my pencil on the mark then bring square to pencil. The reason being lead width varies. Guy who taught me that was old school draftsman.

  All good information. A few additional points. 1) Always use the same tape measure. A buddy and I were working together, he was calling out the measurements and I was doing the cuts. It was only when we compared our tapes that we figured out why my cuts were always off. 2) For precision work, nothing beats a marking knife. But it&apos;s a waste of time for much of the work that a carpenter does. 3) When square matters, check the squareness of your square. 4) When using a chop saw and you need to take just a smidge off the end of the board, do this. With the saw off, drop the blade and press the end of the board against it so the blade deflects a bit. Raise the blade and make the cut.<br><br>I do a lot of precision woodworking, not carpentry. My apron pocket has a Sharpie and 1mm, 0.7mm, and 0.5mm pencils, and a marking knife. I always use the same tape measure.

  Man; I&apos;m not a builder anymore, but when i see one of your videos that i like the look of, it&apos;s still worthwhile every time. <br>Scott: the last two minutes of this are basically my life&apos;s thesis. Thanks for letting me know I&apos;m on the right track.

  The thing I love about Scott in addition to his knowledge and how he shares it is that when he starts a video he gets right to the subject matter without a lot of time wasted in a lengthy introduction. I think that is because he has a lot of information to share with his viewers and not a lot of time to get it done. I really appreciate it Scott.

  I could spend several episodes just listening to your stories. &nbsp;When I was a young whipper snapper, I&apos;d visit my local &nbsp;country store early every Saturday morning. It had the pot belly stove in back, pouring out it&apos;s warmth. All the old folk would gather around it and talk. I&apos;d pull up a seat and absorb wisdom, buried in the stories they told. I sure do miss them. That wisdom is still alive in my head and in my heart. Those were the best stories and best days of my life. &nbsp;They are greatly missed.

  You make me remember my father in law when he was younger. He’s now 90 years old but in his day he knew how to work with wood the old way. I learned so much from him and he gave me all of his tools. That to me was a great honor.
