I like to go upto 100,000 grit micromesh for final polish, the edge is so sharp that it can cut through time

Not to be that guy and tell you your business about something that is clearly working for you, but the Shapton Kuromaku stones are not meant to be soaked, except for one single time before their first use. My understanding is that with these stones, soaking them for prolonged periods of time weakens the bonding agent and make them softer. You might not have to flatten them as much if you stop soaking them.

I sharpen kitchen knives as a hobby and the process is remarkably similar. Even the angles are. 😊

The paper test is to see if the blade was sharpened consistently across the edge. Pull the blade through the paper and is it doesn’t catch you’ve sharpened the edge. If it chatters, get back to work.

Restoring old chisels is so much fun and not hard if you know how are are willing to put in a little work.  I think I've "rescued" about 100 chisels in my shop and once you restore them, you fall in love and never want to let them go.

I got into woodworking because of a chisel, but not one I bought. As a child I watched my uncle cutting out the mortise or rebate for hinges on a door with a large chisel. That idea of modifying wood, almost like clay, making a neat pocket for a metal hinge, stuck with me until I was old enough to get my own tools. I made a simple set of dado-joint shelves. I loved cutting those dados with a chisel!
