I turned 75 last month, and have been weightlifting vigorously for over 10 years. I do not need or take any prescription medications. Earlier, this morning, after going to the gym, I rode one of my horses, for several miles. I am not looking for more years, nearly as much as more life in my remaining years.

    Video idea for you.

I guess recovery is implied in this video, but i think it deserves a special mention. Its very easy, especially for beginners, to over exercise.

Experienced people forget this when giving advice

I believe injury prevention should be a priority in any training plan for beginners.

Exercise doesnt make you stronger as much as recovery from exercise makes you stronger.

also consider
hierarchy of adaptation rates:
Cardio improvements are faster than muscle improvements which are faster than tendon/ligament improvements

(yes ive been stupid and injured myself)

I am a certified trainer. I remember in one of my fitness periodicals. They did a study where they compared a look at the arteries of ultra endurance, athletes versus people who have been diagnosed with heart disease. To their dismay, the ultra endurance athletes had more calcification in their arteries than the people with the heart disease. This makes sense, because when training becomes over training, your body cannot recover from inflammation. Even though the ultra endurance athletes probably had good or decent lipid profile, the over training caused inflammation of the arteries, which caused calcium
to build up there. So there is a point of diminishing returns with exercise. It is also a good idea to take vitamin K2 also also known as
MK-7 to steer the calcium away from your arteries and into your bones. It will also help lower the risk of bone fractures.

Thanks for yet another great video.

I was pleased to see cardio “win”. I’m 77, and I’ve been mountaineering for 38 years. Lots of uphill work. I did about 10,000’ of elevation gain last weekend. I stay away from HIIT because pushing that hard triggers asthma symptoms. I did almost no strength training until two years ago when I realized I had lost 14 pounds, probably all muscle. I dislike weight training, but I’ve been doing it anyway, and I’ve gained back about 8 pounds.

    69 year old car-free utility
/ commuter cyclist. I ride about 10,000 to 12,000km per year. I do it because I just love riding a bike. But I am healthy, on no medications whatsoever and I feel great. I have lately added doing 30 push-ups a day (on your advice), to get my upper body in better shape. Although I didn't start cycling for longevity, but as I approach my 70s, I am glad I've been cycling these past 35 years.
