  Others have said this before, and im going to repeat it. Spoilers for those who haven&apos;t watched the movie.<br><br>His eventual demise feels like an origin story of a boss you defeat, and then it drops the recording on the phone, and you listen to his message in the garage, and your heart breaks for him.

Brian wastes ammo. he barely searches locations. he regularly approaches things with increasingly red flags. he makes every bad decision. he eats shit every five minutes on average. he&apos;s just like me fr fr.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqpfkLPofUQ&amp;t=460">7:40</a> I think him being a genuinely good hearted fello is my favorite part of his character. It wasn&apos;t an Obsession and/or Backrooms situation where this guy was an asshole or terrible person that deserves what is happening to him, he was just a good dude who got put into a terrible situation, make the ending all the sadder.

  Spoilers for the whole movie beforehand:<br><br>I found that Bryan&apos;s whole journey is about his fear of parenthood, the fact that he avoided going to talk to his gf and instead took the job sealed his fate, and from then on he&apos;s chased by various horrible mutated forms of family life (the pet dog, the old parents, the almagmation being the representation of 2 people committing their lives to something greater and how it takes away your identity and how it&apos;s constantly chasing him throughout the film, the little girl that lost her mother, and the maternity ward where he has to literally kill a baby). I feel like there&apos;s a larger message underneath the film about what can happen to you when you don&apos;t confront your true fears and feelings head-on and how it can slowly destroy you or even turn you into the worst version of yourself.<br><br>This also gives a new clever twist to the title of Resident Evil: it&apos;s about the horrors of a residential/tradition lifestyle

  When you talk about how Bryan is kind of a mess but ultimately a good guy who helps - I think the fact that he is a healthcare worker is a HUGE component of that. Like he&apos;s in that gray space in medicine where he&apos;s not a provider of any kind but the job he does everyday is to help save lives. So when he hits that first zombie, his training kicks in. He has to get her to the hospital. This is also why he never, ever lets go of the bag, even before he knows what&apos;s inside. This is why he picks up that little girl. This is (a part of) why he is motivated to get to the 28th floor.

  One thing I really, REALLY want to give props to is how &quot;tastefully&quot; done the scenes with the little girl and the maternity ward were, in terms of violence. As soon as the camera panned down to the girl&apos;s mutated foot, I was genuinely wondering what was gonna happen because Bryan is very CLEARLY not the type of person who can just shoot a kid. As soon as her face split open though, I thought, &quot;aaaaahh, that&apos;s a good creative choice,&quot; because seeing a flesh flower with teeth and one big eye get obliterated is way easier to understand/stomach than seeing a little girl&apos;s head get blown off.<br><br>Same with the maternity ward scene - I was genuinely so afraid it was going to go the AVP2 route by reveling in the grotesque violence happening to the pregnant women and infants in the movie. I was so relieved when I saw that what we&apos;re seeing is the <b>aftermath</b> of what happened, and we really don&apos;t even see what exactly became of the babies. We see the tentacles and weird blood wombs, but there&apos;s no gratuitous lingering shots of mutating babies or babies eating their way out of pregnant women&apos;s stomachs. <br><br>Conceptually, both of those scenes still involve violence towards children, infants, and pregnant women, but they felt more... like they were there to show that no one and nothing is safe from the virus, and less like the director just wants to shock his audience by shoving dead babies in our faces. (Plus, the whole &quot;fear of fatherhood&quot; thing Bryan had going on.) I also think that having rats eat their way out of a guy&apos;s stomach was a pretty decent workaround for that kind of pregnancy horror, and a clever way to transpose it onto a man. It&apos;s far enough removed that it doesn&apos;t disturb you in the same visceral way, but still works as a good metaphor.

  I feel like a story in a premade universe that UNDERSTANDS the universe doesn&apos;t need to have familiar faces.... It just needs to generate the familiar feelings, and this movie does that in SPADES....

  I think what makes the ending work for me is everything that came before it. Bryan was SO close to making it out alive, literally SECONDS left before he could have been cured. But then you think about the rest of the movie. Every time he made the wrong choice, a slight mistake, some roadblock he wound up in front of. Had he made the right call on ANY of those moments, he would have made it out alive, and the cure would still be intact. And that makes it even more tragic. He gained confidence, realized what was important to him, and made it further than any poverty-level delivery boy had ANY right to. And in the end... he took just 30 seconds too long.

  Bryan realizing that the unseen monster was playing &quot;angler fish&quot; with Maxine&apos;s body made me like him and hope for his survival. I love it when horror movie protagonists make good choices but the situation is so hopeless that none of the little good choices can add up to survival.
