  Reading through the comments, I realize that some of my frustration came across the wrong way. Being grounded by health issues was a bit of a shock to my routine, and I felt a disorienting loss of identity and momentum. My references to suburbia weren't meant to dismiss Perth or the people living here—I’m genuinely grateful for family and good healthcare—it was simply my clumsy way of expressing how out of place and restless I felt inside. Thanks to everyone sharing their perspective and travel experiences.

  I can't help but feel you are in the real World in Perth, the World most people actually love. Travel is great and I love your videos, but recently I worry for you. Old age brings the unknown, health issues and heavy costs. I hope you continue to travel with good health mate. I know as and old traveller myself, I really love my little apartment and the comforts of having a home. Still travel, just went through Bali and now in Sydney, but cannot wait to get home in The Netherlands soon. ❤

  Mate, you’ve got to stop complaining. You’re alive, you have the free will to come and go as you please. Medical issues? We all have these as we grow older.  You are an exception, you don’t have a partner or children, most do. This is probably why you find it difficult to contribute to conversations back in Perth. I’ve lived in Perth for 68 years, love the place, an occasional holiday is all I need. You’re different, we all are, I couldn’t stay in most of the places you do! Suck it up mate, you’ll soon be off wandering again! 😁👍👍

  Wayne - you got to get a balance man.  I'm your age, live in Nollamara.  Have my own place.  Still work full time as a high school teacher.  Yes, Perth is as boring as ..... you know what, but we live our life in our heads.  Wherever you go, you take that with you.  If you are sad here - you'll be sad in Asia.  I lived for years in Thailand, taught English in Vietnam.  Yes, I love travel too, and still do.  I did 5 weeks in India 2024, last year - two trips to Vietnam and a month in NZ.  But as I get older, I don't want to be 'hareing' around the place the same.  After a few months the madness of Asia, gets to me and I love coming back to the quietness of my little place, and the safety and surety.  If you don't get a balance, one day - like us all - when you are too old to travel, you would have spent all your money, come back home here, with no place and be on the poverty line.  I'm finding now the balance between the two the best.  Make the most of hobbies and friends and stuff when in Perth, and then travel for a couple of months a year - and then when you come back to Perth, you will appreciate it even more.   Good luck with the old 'ticker'!
