  I'm a single guy .... retired nurse. I considered trying to move to Goa full time. Too much hassle. So here's my tip. I rent a nice apartment in South Goa from November till March. So I get to leave Scotland during the winter months and enjoy my India break  for 5 months. I also rent out my apartment in Scotland....this covers my India break. This is the best of both worlds for me. I also take out a premium health insurance policy for my stay in India. A little bit more expensive....but worth the security if things go awry. If you shop around you can get some excellent relatively inexpensive apartments or chalets, especially if you rent for 5 or 6 months.

  I also lived in Asia for several years (as a researcher) and hardly met any foreigner who was able to live there happily for many years. My theory is this: simply wanting to leave one country isn’t enough; you have to want to go to a specific country, to its people, and to embrace their cultures. And perhaps even more importantly, those who can’t find their own niche of comfort in their own country certainly won’t be able to do so in foreign cultures. Flexibility, tolerance, and a generally positive mindset are the key.

  as a European in Asia.. the main problems i see for other expats are.. money (lack of), loneliness (transient friends), boredom (alcoholism) and pessimism (everything is always getting worse).. however, it is definitely possible to have a good life in Asia, you just have to have the right personality and a bit of luck! interesting video.. cheers 🍻

  What I love about the place in England where I live is it is almost dead silent except for the birds and other wildlife. It is also in a town with short walks to shops, so you get the best of both worlds. Too much noise and distraction shuts down your thinking abilities, so you can't figure out what to do about it!

  People are funny ,  you could move to a country town in Australia and you will always be the new guy , even if you lived there for 20 years .

  Great episode! I went straight from my own country to emigrating Sri Lanka for 3 years without doing holidays there first. Then went to india, nepal and now back to Dharamshala in India....beautiful places ❤ It can be a huge culture shock and very challenging and noisy but for all of that I am trying my best to stay on this side of the world as it's all much safer than South Africa. I'd say it's best to be open minded, patient, be friendly (of course with boundaries) and willing to embrace new ideas and people

  I`ll say this much, for 98% of people (of course, there may be a few select outliers) moving to another country without any other context (like a local partner, job, project) than just wanting to "be there" doesn`t bode very well and you`re likely to run into and despair from a lot of the things you mentioned in this video. the holiday magic wears off real fast if it becomes more of a hotel california type of situation

  Hello from CA, Wayne. You forgot about the bugs. I got really tired of being bitten by mosquitoes and skin infections, especially on my lower leg and ankles. Dengue fever and malaria is added to the list. Thankfully, i never had the digestive issues but saw plenty of long-term westerners really uncomfortable and sweating profusely from the relentless heat.  Medical care might be an issue for chronic diseases.  Luckily, i had infectious diseases and doctors were experts in tropical medicine.  Air quality is another issue for people with compromised immune systems: copd & asthma.  The benefits were always the people, art, music, culture, massages, fresh fish & the incredible, stunning landscapes.
