If you have no experience riding a motorcycle, the roads of SE Asia aren't the place to learn

I’ve seen firsthand how irrational fears can absolutely cripple someone. This place has earthquakes, that place has tornados. In another place there was a terrorist attack ten years ago… Before you know it, you’re housebound wrapping yourself in bubble wrap. I love your advice. Be aware but don’t let fear dictate your life. You can’t stop living.

A few years ago, I was in the Southern Philippines enjoying a lovely typhoon, horizontal rain and 80mph coconuts. It dried up and the Taal volcano went off a couple of hundred kilometers away, another typhoon had reservations for the next week. I decided maybe up far North was a good idea. Flew out just ahead of a huge typhoon and made it past the volcano. Got up North, got to hotel, earthquake struck. Tidal wave warning sirens went off. splendid weekend. I was going to depart the country next week, taxied to airport...shut down, no busses, no cabs not even tuk tuks. Covid arrived. Haven't had luck like that ever.

Fun stories time. I was in Bangkok during the earthquake, swaying in a highrise! I was in Ladakh the night mudslides killed hundreds just a few kilometres away. Have been based in Thailand for three decades. Used to get giardia twice a year, but eventually stopped eating uncooked vegetables completely, even garnish. Now it's a once every two years occurence. I eat fresh fruit, steamed and fried veg and manage well enough.

You're spot on and it's not common to see someone cheerfully pointing out South East Asian annoyances and it's the reason why I got tired of it and spend a lot more time in Japan which is the polar opposite of what you were describing apart from the obvious and very real natural disasters, we are very fortunate it became cheap as well but don't tell anyone

WA guy who now lives in Bangkok with my wife, seeing Claisebrook Cove again brought back some lovely memories of doing parkrun there on Saturday morning and grabbing a coffee at one of the brilliant coffee shops there.. these days we do our runs in the brilliant Chatuchak Park, across the road from our Bangkok place. All the best in your ongoing adventures.

G'day, Wayne.<br>Thanks for another entertaining video. Regarding retiring in South-East Asia, there is a way to do so without acquiring a retirement visa. You simply roam around that part of the world using tourist visas. For me I will simply spend sixty days in Bali, then sixty days in Thailand, then back to Bali and so forth. For a bit of variety, one could spend time in other countries such as Malaysia, The Philippines, Vietnam, or Cambodia. I turned 60 back in January and will probably retire at the end of June next year.

Know your nearest exits from all buildings, terrorism, earthquakes, drunks etc. Follow the rules of stupid ("Don't go stupid places, with stupid people, at stupid times, and do stupid things" you can break one of these and probably be ok, break two or more and your chances of getting hurt go up quickly) Know the evacuation routes from your building when the Tsunami sirens are sounding it's not the time to be finding out where to go. Try and stay above the ground floor and below the 5th floor. Many fire trucks can only reach the lower floors. Staying alert will help you avoid most problems.
