  I was on a battle ready aircraft carrier for two years from ’69-71. I worked 12 hrs/day, never missed a good meal, and slept soundly every night. On our off hours, we watched movies, played cards, chess, and read. I made great friends, and prospered during that time gaining knowledge and maturity which helped me succeed after I got out. The Navy, its training and attention to mission gave me the fundamentals of success which I subsequently earned.

  It&apos;s not that way on a CVN only. Every ship has the same living conditions. CVN&apos;s are just super sized!<br>Cramped living conditions, twelve hour workdays for ninety five percent of the crew. <br>But you know something, no regrets! Served with the best! Best five years of my life!<br>If you are thinking about the Navy, go for it!<br>⚓

  AE1 (Retired) &nbsp;There&apos;s more storage under the mattress. Chow hall feeds 4 times a day. Your sleep pattern may adjust to the 12 0n/0ff work schedule. Lower ranks pull &quot;in port working party. Make rank and earn privileges. Advance to E4 and request BAQ pay so you can split an off-base apartment and buy a car on financing. Plan 1: Stay in for at least 8 years as you go to community college, get out and go to university. Plan 2 Serve 20+ years. Always carry at least 1 flashlight, a whistle and pocketknife. I deployed with 30 undershorts which I threw away after deployment. Aboard ship I worked 12 with time off for meals. After my shift I could go to the gym, library, hobbies, sleep 8-hours, wake, shower, dress, eat and report for work. Time flies and before you know it Liberty Call for 2 weeks. &nbsp;Go ashore, do laundry, shopping, liberty, be ready. &nbsp;&gt;&gt;&gt; My motto: &quot;Improve your process.&quot;

  My son&apos;s stationed aboard an aircraft carrier currently stationed in Yokosuka, Japan and he really enjoys the lifestyle aboard. The only issue he has is that the food is not like mom makes at home but he says it&apos;s okay. I&apos;m proud of all service members of every branch especially in this day and age with the way most kids think.

  I am beyond proud of all the men and women who have served and currently serving. &nbsp;I was not born in the US but became a citizen as soon as I was old enough. &nbsp;I am grateful to this country I made my own and will forever love and support all the wonderful people in each branch of the military, you are all my heroes and I pray for your safety every day. 🙏🥰

  My dad was a 32 year old navy veteran. Vet from Korea war, 5 deployments during the Vietnam war on the Coral Sea, Ranger, Orkiskny, in Vietnam, a Mediterranean cruise in 1975 on the FDR. He predicted that the next war would be the Middle East A year long term in Cam Rah Bay. The USS Midway a helicopter squadron in Misawa Japan maintenance officer for a helicopter squadron. He started as a seaman and retired as a CWO 4. The navy really have it made today even though they have better conditions.🇺🇸

  12 on 12 off for an 84 hour work week and if general quarters came during you off time you got out of bed and went to your station. &nbsp;I&apos;d do it again in a heartbeat my only regret is I didn&apos;t stay and do my 20
