  FINALLY <br><br>I found a NAS build video that actually walks you through the software side of making a NAS. It was so annoying with so many IT videos of people only showing the hardware side.

  For ultimate file storage safety you could build two of these and put one in your basement and one at a friend&apos;s house. You could each have cheap, subscription-free cloud storage and peace of mind knowing that if your house burns down at least your Minecraft server is still running - I mean photos are safe.

  Now THAT&apos;S a NAS build I can get behind. So many &quot;inexpensive&quot; NAS build videos omit the cost of storage when putting together... or use motherboards that aren&apos;t available anywhere because the video was shot 4 years ago. The nice thing about this build is that the storage size can be increased later for not too much more money &amp;&amp; you&apos;re still shelling out way less than a 0GB NAS box. Great video!

  Other than probably opting for a less proprietary system (Prodesk 400 G2 MT has standard ATX PSU connector and standard mATX mounting so you can later transfer the motherboard to a bigger case that holds more storage), this is an enjoyable build.

  I made this nas, with new hdds for peace of mind. Great result. Thank you! I can confirm that the official mounting screws from hp are a &quot;rip off&quot; but at least they are elegant and they also work for dampening vibrations. They cost, but i still recommend to buy. (Zip ties ftw)

  It would be really helpful to test power usage. The Kill A Watt meter makes it easy. Or the smarter idea is get a smart plug...get it...that has built in energy monitoring. Then you get 2 uses for it.
