  Great video about Maine soldiers at Gettysburg. I was able to trace several ancestors of mine who were at Gettysburg. <br><br>My 7th grandfather, Andrew Tozier. Medal of honor recipient Andrew Tozier was with the 20th Maine and later received the medal of honor for his bravery on Little Round Top. During the battle the 20th Maine wavered on Little Round Top. Tozier stood alone in an advanced position on Little Round Top holding the American flag in one arm and firing his musket in the other. He picked up ammunition at his feet. Seeing Tozier standing there alone inspired and rallied his comrades around him. The 20th Maine rushed forward towards Tozier which ultimately helped pushed the advancing rebels back. Due to his heroic stand, Tozier won the medal of honor for his bravery.<br><br>Andrew Tozier&apos;s uncle, William Tozier, was with the 19th Maine regiment. The 19th Maine was one of the regiments the helped repel Pickett&apos;s Charge on July 3. <br><br><br>Another ancestor of mine, Horrace McDonald, was with the 3rd Maine regiment who was fighting at the Peach Orchard on July 2.

  I had no idea until 3 years ago that my father Comstock Small&apos;s great-uncle Abner Small had fought at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and &nbsp;Gettysburg and written a memoir about his Civil War experiences. <br><br>My mother found a copy of Abner&apos;s History of the 16th Maine Regiment in the Rockland, Maine public library, and that led her to &apos;The Road to Richmond&apos;. <br><br>I&apos;m grateful for all these historical videos that help me answer the questions that reading Abner&apos;s memoir raises!

  The folks at the Chamberlain museum are very helpful. Love this. Glad to see other Maine men being remembered. <br><br>I had read that Chamberlains younger brother Tom initially tried to join the 16th Maine, but he was stopped by his mother. Then he eventually joined the 20th Maine after his brother did so. Odd to think had Tom been with the 16th, he’d have most likely not survived. <br><br>The casualty information in this video is wrong however.

  Loved the filmography and overall video but some of the history by the archivist was incorrect. Still an incredible testament to the Maine men of Gettysburg

  Why don&apos;t you Mainers EVER remember FREEMAN McGILVERY, Artillery man and CONGRESSIONAL MEDAL of HONOR winner on the Second Day??? &nbsp;Why does it take some old Hoosier in Indianapolis to remember someone whose actions were every bit as important to our cause as the great JL Chamberlain&apos;s were??? &nbsp;Buried in Searsport and from Prospect, McGilvery and his artillery were so important over by the Trostle Farm and you guys NEVER mention him in ANYTHING! &nbsp;Shame on all of you.<br>I&apos;ll bet you didn&apos;t even know he has a special day every year in Maine, do you? &nbsp;In fact, it was just YESTERDAY, September 12th, 2026 (the second Saturday of every September, look it up), and it&apos;s called &quot;Freeman McGilvery Day.&quot;<br>I thought this was a very good documentary about Mainers in the great civil war until I realized you had left out McGilvery once again. &nbsp;It really pisses me off. &nbsp;Why don&apos;t you know or care about him??? &nbsp;A Goddamned CONGRESSIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR WINNER????<br>Shame, shame, shame on you. &nbsp;You might want to read about the guy and do something on him; he was EVERY BIT as important as Lawrence!!!!!!<br><br>Phil Kaiser (former Maine resident)<br>Indianapolis, Indiana<br><br>PS: Check out his photograph too, as he has some of the coolest sideburns in the entire war!
