  Even as a child i didn&apos;t think Fiddler On The Roof was just a &nbsp; happy musical.<br>How could anyone not realize how serious and deep the film is.

  The &quot;comedy&quot; in Fiddler is of the if-I-didn&apos;t-laugh-I&apos;d-cry variety, like when Tevye complains to God that his horse is lame, to the effect of, &quot;I know I&apos;m a sinner and deserve punishment, but what did the horse ever do to You?&quot;

  I&apos;m shocked to find out people think fiddler on the roof is a happy musical. It makes me cry a lot, but the happy moments are SO happy, so I also get it.

  Rest In Peace Chaim Topol (1935-2023)<br><br>Incredible actor. He WAS Tevye, having played the role on over 3000 times on stage. And his performance is forever immortalized in the film.

  I&apos;m sorry, who thinks Fiddler on the Roof is quaint and fun? I mean, there&apos;s a lot of humor in the first act, but it is deeply depressing and existential, while still hopeful. It&apos;s one of the movies guaranteed to make me cry.

  As a Christian I went through a similar experience as Chava, since my finance and I were leaving our denomination to join another due to articles of faith we could not confess to. My mother took this very badly and turned her back on me and would not come to the wedding. My dad stayed with her because she was his first love, as was right. A year passed when we became foster parents to two year old twins. My mom broke her silent treatment of me to call and ask when the boys were coming. After they were returned to their mom, we found out we were expecting our first child. My mom gave me a special gift that was her way of saying that she wanted to be reconciled. Our baby was a girl, whom we named after my mother&apos;s grandma, Sarah Ann, continuing a family tradition. So I really understood Chava, and the scene where Tevye quietly blesses &nbsp;Chava and Fyedke plants the seed of hope of their future reconcilliation.

  The saddest thing? That it was necessary to explain this at all. How could anyone NOT recognize the tragic themes in Fiddler?

  The music of that movie is insane. &nbsp; I think &quot;To Life&quot; the song in the tavern when Tevya and Lazer Wolf announce the wedding for Tevyes daughter is one of the most impactful intense music in Cinematic history. &nbsp; It starts with a Jewish melody and dance, goes into a Russian folk sound and dance where the towns folk actually invite the Jewish members of the community to join them, goes back to the Jewish and then comes together with both styles playing at once complimenting each other despite their differences. &nbsp; The sound, the energy, the chaos, yet harmony is so incredible. &nbsp;It takes my breath away.

  I always took it that money meant security - he’s not chasing money for its own sake. He wants time to read the good book and to give his daughters the best life he can. His love for his daughters encouraged him to bend his faith, which I always thought was beautiful.

  How does anyone not realize how tragedy walks hand in hand with joy in Fiddler? This seems obvious to me. The first time you, as a kid, hear the song Anatevka you realize the jokes are there to hide and manage the pain.

  My favorite movie. I am a Jew who was born and raised in almost the same shtetl (in Soviet Belarus), I was raised by my grandparents who spoke Yiddish, they had a wooden house. Anatevka. Right on the border of the Gomel region and the Kyiv region, where Shalom Aleichem lived.... Yiddishland that no longer exists. Millions were destroyed in the Shoah
