You don’t look like you have much of a sunburn. I am a surgeon retiring this year after 37 1/2 years of practice. I have been in a group practice and have been insulated from completely understanding Medicare. I have watched several of your videos. I very much appreciate you making them. This one in particular is very thorough and probably the best explanation of the choices that I have seen. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this.

As a physician, I can tell you that advantage plans make up for the premiums they save you by denying care. Then patients and doctors have to appeal to a company whose entire profit depends on denying the care. Commercial insurance can play the same game but once you are a senior, you can avoid it with plan G. I am retiring soon and will go with plan G. Excellent video.

Sunburn. My mother chose an advantage plan. She found they can deny anything they want to deny for any of no reason. They "delayed" her dental coverage until she was to frail to have the dental work done. She had colon cancer that could be treated with laparoscopic surgery my sister had to fight the insurance company to provide after care. They denied colon cancer screening after that because "she would likely die of something else first". She got another tumor that couldn't be treated with laparoscopic surgery. After the surgery the "hospitalist" repeated 8 or 9 times that because she was over 80 going forward she would only receive "palliative" care for such a major event. My brother was wisely recording the conversation and told the "hospitalist" if he mentioned "palliative" care one more time he would sue him for elder abuse. During her after care she had sores in her mouth and could barely eat. The only thing insurance would allow was a test for thrush, which came up negative so no further action. Her surgery wound wasn't healing for lack of her eating enough protein due to the sores in her mouth. She quickly ended up in hospice and I flew down and became aware of the whole situation. I asked the hospice nurse if there was a medicated mouthwash that might solve the problem and could she get me a script for it. She said yes and I went out and bought it. In one day she was eating normally. Her wound started to heal and her 30 days after care was up, insurance wouldn't pay for more even with her still unhealed surgical wound. We kids chipped in and paid. She lived on for several years. My point is with advantage care you give up all your rights under part A and B and put them in the hands of the insurance company. That is the biggest risk of all. Your experience could be great or deadly, and there's no way of knowing beforehand.

Your video series is the cat's pajamas. I'm newly retired and am attempting to navigate this mess that is the American health care system. Your presentations are fact-rich, concise, easily understood and are supported by other legitimate sources of information I've sought out. Thanks for doing what you're doing. This has been a HUGE help!

When you are disabled with a brain injury you can forget about understanding any of this but, you break it down where it is easy to compare. Thank you so much for taking the time to present this… “Sunburn”

Sunburn. Thank you. During my working years I had a Co pay for my HMO high deductible insurance. When I retired I learned about plan G and found it less than what I paying at work. Since my retirement my wife had open heart surgery and knee replace to and a broken arm. I have prostate cancer and ulcerative colitis. If I would have had an advantage plan it would have financial devastated us. When I bought plan G I bought it not for how I felt at the time, but for when I was sick. Advantage plans come in my mail every day trying to switch me over. Never get mail for plan G. That should tell you something in itself.

Eric, I'd love to see a video like this looking at something like diabetes, congestive heart failure or other chronic illness where you can expect regular medical bills the rest of your life. In other words, if you could find a diabetic with a couple of complications to send in a year's worth of bills and you could run them through this exercise.

Sunburn !!! I am an insurance agent in the state of Kentucky. I mainly market and write medicare supplement insurance. I have been writing medicare supplement policies since 1985. You did a great job in this video. Even though I already know about what you covered in the video, it was a pleasure listening to you explain it the way you did. It's easy for people like you and me to understand because we have studied it and do it for a living, but for most everyone else, it is very confusing. I think you helped anyone listening to this video have a good understanding of the material you covered. Personally, I have always had the regular Plan G coverage on myself.
