Excellent conversation! So many insights and helpful information, thank you so much! It’s tragic that there is not enough education and research on RSD and ADHD in women generally… complicated and misunderstood but feels such a warm supportive hug when I listen to someone who actually understands ..it helps… thank you 🙏🏽✨

    I'm 57, diagnosed Nov 25.
I have previously been diagnosed with BPD, GAD depression, given ect, hospitalised, self harmed given meds, that have caused psychosis and I've been sectioned for suicide attempts twice. Now my life has completely changed. I'm taking Elvanse and for the first time EVER my whole life makes sense.
Misdiagnosis has almost killed me. I am no longer depressed because I understand why all of these awful things happened to me. No woman should endure what I have been through. Psychiatrists and therapists need to be trained to spot the lifelong symptoms of ADHD and it's affects on sufferers mental health patterns.

I am a 65 year old woman, and have thus far had a positive assess for ADHD, but feel I am AUDHD. So far in Australia, diagnosis is not available unless you have a coupla thousand to pay the tillerman. This will need to change. I have been describing RSD to doctors for decades, as "A physical pain I feel in my chest when an emotional event occurs, when I feel abandoned or misunderstood, or unfairly criticised" I have also actually survived family trauma and honestly thought I may be a changeling left by the fairies lol. As a woman of my age, doctors have most definitely treated me as over sensitive/hypochondriac even when I was well informed about my health. It has been for me, most definitely the most debilitating aspect. I only realised I was quite intelligent a few years ago, no one had told me and I did not know. All of these ingredients make a really shit cake. :planet-orange-purple-ring:

I loved hearing from this fellow. Dr. Mashru seemed so comfortable and gentle in his communication, and I learned a lot from this one. I look forward to Part 2.

Im a 35 yr male in Alabama that's AuDHD as far as I understand and you just described my life to a T up until like 3yrs ago,
I had an encounter with a river of pure liquid love flowing thru my entire body for 3 weeks straight and it radically changed my entire existence, a lot of things changed over night and some things I still struggle with but that river of Love broke chains off me and I felt like I was physically 200lbs lighter! Before it was like swimming up stream with weights tied to you and afterwards it was like your floating down stream on a float!
It was simply loving myself! I remember during those time I would fall asleep hugging myself, something I had never done in my life, I always hated myself! Wow this is so eye opening and also ties in w my theory that we are all acting and living from fear instead of Love!

Autistic/ADHD w/lots of RSD here. The difference being, being 54 & late diagnosed, I’ve had so many failures, I actually know that I’m not enough, & not good enough, & have failed so much that everyone has moved on in their own lives without me. Including my adult children & my siblings & even my parents. Everyone. They don’t know of my diagnosis, but that would be just another one of my “excuses” for so many failures. So I stay out of everyone’s hair. Years of silence.

My mum passed away last year and struggled all her life with mental health. I recently was diagnosed with inattentive ADHD and spoke to my mum before she passed away that I also thought she had ADHD. She was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and I always felt that there was something a miss with that diagnosis and that mental health services did not understand what was going on for her. This conversation really confirms to me that I was right and RSD was such a major part of her struggles. It’s just really sad that people are left to suffer if medical professionals aren’t able to clearly understand how a person‘s brain works and clearly and understanding all different Neurotypes to be able to diagnose a person properly, therefore give them the help that they need ❤

This guy is spot on! Thank you 🙏 both for all your hard work in this space, at 49 and recently diagnosed ADHD I’m very appreciative of the recognition of this condition in the many Gen X, male and female that were left to their own devices or should I say vices over the last 40 years! Time to heal and find some inner peace in the process 😌

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
This episode has literally been the best description of what my WHOLE life has been like. The visceral response in my body just listening this is very high.
When I first saw a brief description about RSD and endowed it to my sister her response was ‘this explains your whole life’
The catalogue of disasters my life has been now makes so much sense.
And here I am now. Completely drowning under the weight of a failed marriage, solo parenting 4 neurodivergent children and in Peri menopause. A life time of broke friendships, very fractured family relationships. No income because I can’t hold myself together to work, then no way of funding therapy. End of life ideation is strong.
I am done. I don’t even have a Audhd diagnosis and terrified that when that time comes the will tell me I’m not.
In severe burnout and completely at my end

Sooo true! I am not crying as I’ve discovered RSD before, but as I entered the forced menopause(cancer treatment), I noticed that I don’t manage life anymore as I used to… then started reading about ADHD … and then I cried… my whole life I felt inadequate- always late, messy, disorganised… I managed thoughtless to high intelligence, but at that time I wasn’t even coping anymore!
I got diagnosed, and of course- confirmed. Relief, though sort of joy through tears.
Then I found out about RSD, but still don’t know how to cope… and told my adhd therapist about my anger outbursts- she didn’t have any idea what to connect it with. THANK YOU! I am 58 and now at least understand why I can get so easily pissed off- not by a character flaw, but actually coming from the same source as ADHD.
It’s been very informative, will come back- now going to finish listening, as I had to comment immediately (l😅) after you mentioned anger outbursts.
I do not act on them other than verbally, but knowing the source might help me control it…
THE BEST podcast on ADHD I’ve heard so far! Made me even think again that I actually could become a coach-I have dismissed the idea a few times, sadly feeling inadequate (sic)
I also feel I need to share the specific knowledge with women 50+ - dismissed, forgotten and unhappy without awareness of ADHD…( I always wanted to be a missionary, not religii though and not coping with strict authority welll)
THANK YOU!!!

Thanks! An important subject and a very interesting talk. A suggestion for part 2 is to talk a bit about autism and how meltdowns and RSD might be connected through previous overstimulation and other things, and also what the differences are between meltdowns and RSD.
