I've been told I couldn't possibly have ADHD because I have a degree. They didn't want to hear, "But that took three separate colleges and 7 years to finish".

One of the hardest things about ADHD is feeling so misunderstood and judged

I was so independent as a child because i could still manage things, but as i became an adult things got more and more overwhelming , until i burned out completely.

I’m an 80 year old ADHD female. I’ve been professionally and financially successful. But life has been so so difficult. I see now that I’ve been masking my whole life. I believe that I’ve only been “successful “ because I funneled into careers that allowed me to be my own boss. I never worked well in groups because my mind was always way ahead of everyone and I couldn’t keep quiet or keep focused. It has been a very lonely life. Failed marriage. Right now I’m finding real freedom. I can be exactly who I am - no more overthinking, people pleasing, rehearsing conversations. I am who I am and people can take me or leave me. Actually I’m less lonely. People appear to want to be with me without my mask. I expect I’m seeing all this because older people are more accepting of old people and at this stage in life , nothing is very important to me anymore. <br>I like who I am .

There is so much grief around not even understanding myself let alone feeling completely misunderstood by everyone else ...

The way I started clapping and almost cried when he said "I think an apology would be a slap in the face. What they actually want to see is action".

Omg, this made me cry. I'm a soon to be 67 year old with no diagnosis. My story has always been I'm different, I don't fit in. The part about thinking you need down time before seeing a friend. What you are actually doing is rehearsing in your head and trying to remember what your friend said ... I thought this was what everyone did. I used to take notes but this made me feel worse. I'm so grateful to know, I'm not alone in this
