  Swede here. Modern fighter jets are literally built around the engine and they are also inherently unstable. A different engine means different mass, mass distribution, size, air requirement and most definitely a different digital engine control system just to mention a few things. It means that everything has to be recalculated and what you get is a new plane. I hope next version will have the EJ-230 engine which only exists as a proposal.

  I can&apos;t tell you how many &quot;Canada replaced F-35A with Gripen&quot; YT videos to which I added comments about the engine. Surely the Canadian government knows this as well but they have never raised the issues AFAIK. I hope they are not just using the Gripen as bargaining leverage with the US - it seems like a fine aircraft for Arctic defence although the range requirements are much larger in Canada than Sweden. <br><br>As for the avionics, I imagine these might be easier to replace than the engine (I might stand corrected) but still, there would have to be significant modifications to the JAS39 Gripen E/F backed up by lots of testing. <br><br>Much as I would like to see Canada acquire the smallest number of F-35As it possibly can and replace the remainder with locally assembled (notice it&apos;s always &quot;assembled&quot;, not manufactured) Gripens, the engine issue is never discussed in most YT videos. House of El, AirPowerX, Millenium 7* and Wes O&apos;Donnell like this channel are rare exceptions. Thank you for that. <br><br>It&apos;s a bit disappointing, but I&apos;d rather know the truth than pin my hopes on the impossible. &nbsp;Take care &nbsp;🇦🇺 🇨🇦 🇺🇦
