  Given Seaspan and Irving's already maxed out order book for the next 10-15 years and with Davie also busy with the Icebreaker fleet, it makes sense to add a 4th shipbuilder, specially for a smaller ship that doesn't require the bigger player's facilities.

  I like the Team vigilance concept it is more practical and will deliver Corvettes faster.   It is reminiscent of how we did it in WW2 building a more off the shelf commercial ship and militarizing it.  It will speed up deliver and get us more bang for the buck

  Canada definitely needs new corvettes, or what some would call light frigates. This could be the perfect role for Naval Reserve units, with support from the Regular Force, of course. A dozen or so would be great.<br><br>The only real issue is shipbuilding capacity. The three main shipyards could be expanded, but they’re already busy and should remain focused on their existing programs. The logical choice would be Ontario Shipyards in the Hamilton/St. Catharines area. Give them the work and let them focus on building Canada’s coastal and continental defence fleet. That’s what I would do.

  A class of ice capable Corvettes along the line of the Finnish Pohjanmaa class would be just the ticket but it will take considerably more than five billion to create a class of 16-20 vessels.

  A review of all the Canadian shipyards and what they&apos;re working on, and what they&apos;re capable of making, and how that all fits in the national shipbuilding strategy would be an interesting video.

  As Topshee noted, haste would be advantageous. There is no time to waffle on this program<br>All these vessels would seem appropriate for the mission. I believe the consortium that could produce most rapidly is the correct choice. The 10+ years timeline is discouraging. The &quot;navy&quot; may be a bit delusional if they are ready to wait that long.<br>All the ships in the world are useless to us if we are not actually operating them.

  I would be all for acquiring the MEKO A-100 from TKMS considering they are the preferred builder for Canada&apos;s next subs. The Vard 7 105 looks like a good capable vessel too.

  Sounds like a pretty capable light frigate. I&apos;ll be amazed if they get them in those numbers since they will be pretty expensive.

  Canada is currently testing the Swedish CB90 with a Saab Trackfire system.<br><br>They can be equipped with mines and depth charges, anti ship missiles as well and can carry 18 to 21 fully equipped soldiers, would be great for CAF JTF2 or CSOR
