I personally started cancelling my subscriptions to channels that just talk of what they bought or what they consume instead of other more valuable content (creators of art and culture) and I started cancelling CozyK first. I also stopped following commentators about politics and I just shift to politics literature.

Hi Kate,
I went on a social media detox this summer. At first it felt so frustrating, felt like I had the biggest FOMO of all time. As weeks went by, it got better and I was present in real life moments more than I was before. After the detox, it felt so weird to post anything anymore! And I felt so FREE not having to care what others post.
Now I have instagram on my phone again and the addiction is growing back. I think this video helped me to realize it and now I'm deleting it all together.

Being poor keeps me from overconsumption. I still have the same clothes since college because I can't afford to shop for clothes. I do shop online too because I live in the suburbs and they don't have everything I need. I tend to want to buy more in-person than online, so it really depends on the person. I think it's because I have more time to think with online purchases than I do with in-person. It's hard to shop being poor when everything you can afford is so cheap that it breaks and rips often so you have to buy more. So I guess in a way companies promote overconsumption buy making crappy products that don't last. And the ones that do last, most people cannot afford it.

Being aware of how and why you go online/[over]consume/etc. I know that often when I get into panicky scrolling, it's because I''m feeling anxious about something else. Just acknowledging that feeling and thinking about something that might actually help with it--talking it out, writing, taking a shower, lying in bed, breathing, meditation, yoga, anything--is often enough to help get out of the anxiety scroll. I also find I feel much less drawn to overstimulation when I'm well-rested. Taking care of your body and feeling good makes online overconsumption so much less appealing.

My boyfriend bought me She-Ra, Arcane, and AtLA on DVD this year 💝 I literally cancelled all my streaming services with less than 20 discs. It's SO WORTH IT!!!

Loved this video! Not just the topic but I have been doing pretty much everything in regards to your wardrobe choices! I’m also not a minimalist but love the capsule inspired wardrobe choices. I love feeling iconic and recognizable with my go to jeans, jackets, bags and the colour yellow!

You are a wise young person, thank you for sharing your tips. I've got two elementary school aged kids and have been worrying about what to do with the whole phone thing as they get older - we got my eldest a smart watch that's specifically for kids, your experience with a flip phone until college was actually very heartening for me. I'm an old millennial and didn't have any phone at all until year 10, and it was an OG Motorola flip phone 😂
I definitely had problems with YouTube and Tumblr on my phone, I got rid of them a while ago and feel much better. I miss Tumblr but it was such a time-suck for me and made me feel bad. YouTube is better but I have to be mindful, I end up staying up too late and Shorts are insidious even as they can be fun. I like your content slide idea I will try to implement that!
My main tip for helping yourself consume less of anything is to create more - if you're sketching you're not online shopping, if you're writing you probably can't scroll through shorts at the same time. Also it just feels good to craft, to make things. My top three things I'm choosing to spend time, energy and money on are cooking at home (I love baking), curated interior design and crafting (mostly embroidery, I swear I'm not a grandma yet I just like their hobbies!) I appreciate your reframing of these personal favourites as the base, the thing to say Yes to so it's so much easier to say No to everything else. I don't feel bad not going out to eat all the time, I prefer cooking. I don't feel the need to buy new clothes because I'm just not that interested in fashion, but I'll save up for months to get the perfect armchair to complete my living room. I've definitely spent money on things I didn't need or even really want in the past, we learn from our mistakes and finding ways to keep moving towards what really makes us happy is an ongoing journey.
감사합니다 🫶 호주한테서 사랑을 보내요

Omg I agree with you about so many things!! I also love fashion but care little about makeup or skincare. I've also recently come to the conclusion that fit is the most important because I've never wanted to declutter any clothes that fit me well or look flattering on me regardless of the price!

What a lovely video--first one I've sat through in its entirety in a long time! I'm a creator myself and have been struggling with staying offline unless I absolutely need to. It's been helpful for me to treat digital consumption as a curation exercise (thinking through how each piece of content inspires me to create). I've also fallen in love with interior design, which ironically makes me want to throw out (and avoid buying) objects that clutter my space.
