  Even a tone discrepancy can be pulled off well, like having a world on a brink of destruction by an all powerful celestial being turned evil saved by a tiny guy with hairy legs named Frodo. But the contrast had to be the focus, not something thats just out of place for no reason at all.

  Some of these things are pretty region-sensitive.<br>The place I&apos;m born, for example, people generally consider &quot;how Rome and its legions work&quot; obscure knowledge, so I feel pretty unabashed styling my own fantasy Imperial army after Roman legionnaires. It&apos;s not a 1:1 match, and I find it very fun researching about sacraments, vocatives, and other legion-associated concepts.

  I think contrast has it&apos;s place. &nbsp;Humor and wholesomeness are surprisingly usefull in selling latter horror for example.

  I have a world, where one continent is stuck in a medival setting and the other one has technology like airships, trains and automatons. The reason being, that while the one continent was plunged into a all-out war and regressed as a result, the other ones were able to utalize their advences in electromancy in order to create those things.<br>Nevertheless the continent, that has been stuck in war progessed in other ways, like gunpowder.<br>It&apos;s less &quot;One country has tanks and the other one is still shooting with bows&quot; and more like &quot;One country has had about 50 years worth of technological advancement, because they stumbled upon a rare alchemical ingredient, that sped up their process, while the other ones still fought off the apocalypse&quot;

  No, I deliberately chose to copy/paste Rome in my setting (but with many adaptions) because of two reasons: Rome is cool, and I want to see their faith and beliefs become real, and their society evolve and adapt in a different world.

  A great piece of advice I was given that prevented me from being afraid of tropes (or archetypes) is this: Tropes are a shorthand to allow your audience to quickly grasp elements of your story so that you can direct their attention to the things which you ACTUALLY want to explore in more detail. Usually these things are the elements of the story which are unique to you.

When the MC has every right to be a villain, and the story even says they&apos;re a villain, but they&apos;re just the typical harem protagonist, but a little bit mean. I came for Fang Yuan, i got spongebob pouting and making angry upset expressions instead.
