  I’ve been bird hunting for many years and am very comfortable with shotguns. My home defense shotgun is a Mossberg 20 gauge pump, improved cylinder with six rounds 7-1/2 high brass bird shot. &nbsp;This has an additional five rounds on the stock. I feel very comfortable with this for home defense or other backyard contingencies. I also have a Glock 23 with a weapon light in my nightstand with four spare magazines. &nbsp;My EDC Glock 43 sits on my nightstand.

  I would not choose bird shot for home defense, but I do believe that a round of bird shot shot directly into an intruder&apos;s face will stop the threat.

  Go to the shooting range with the bird shot,save the buckshot for home defense. A lot of people will hesitate to take a life, the short barrel will keep the bad guy from pushing the barrel out of the way. Practice shooting body targets from the hip at 10 to 15 feet you want feel any painful recoil. And remember you can shoot through walls with buckshot and slugs. But dont waist your shots. Practice &nbsp;Practice, practice.

  If the intruder isn&apos;t heading out of the door they are not in the wrong house nor looking for something to sell they are there to do you hard, you can feel justified in shooting them

  There&apos;s no longer a fee for an FFA permit. You still have to do the paperwork but they don&apos;t charge you for it anymore. There and they&apos;re all so in the process of changing the application paperwork so that it&apos;s all electronic submission.

  I&apos;m not saying to go out of your way to use bird shot for self defense but when buckshot is often sold out it doesn&apos;t mean your shotgun is ineffective, at average self defense distance which is like 3 to 5 yards the column of shot makes a devastating wound channel through bone and organs.
