  I don’t blame the father one bit for what he did. That guy did something horrible to his daughter. I hope everyone in that situation is or was able to heal

  I have a friend who escaped from her abusive religious family under similar circumstances to the Saudi girl. We had even talked about the silverware in your underwear trick. She's away from her family now and wayyy happier without them. I really hope the Saudi Arabian girl was able to get out as well

  The second story is heartbreaking. I’m queer and live in a country where that is illegal and extremely unsafe but I can’t even imagine how this girl must be feeling. Religious fundamentalism and theocracy are poison

  only downside to spreading the spoon in the underwear tip: the parents will learn of this and search their daughter before heading for the airport and then god knows what they'd do in anger.

  that soldier's story is heartbreaking. it's shameful how our military preys on the youth and uses them to commit atrocities. and then when they come back people expect them to just be normal...

  Something don’t see mentioned often in stories about minors being trafficked—I live in an area with a lot of people from a lot of places (sanctuary city), and have know girls who were at risk of being sent back to their parents home country for FGM. Girl my sister was friends with in middle school—her dad was actively hiding their location from her grandmother bcuz she wanted to have FGM done to her. Scary stuff.

  Dang, and I thought it was embarassing when my mom found my Playboy magazine underneath my mattress when I was 15. (this was back in 1999 before the internet was commonplace) At least satisfying my teenage urges never resulted in my house catching fire…
