  Kurt russell from this time would have made an excellent jack ryan... he already played a jack ryan style character in executive decision.

  The film and TV adaptations have had a constant problem of trying to make Jack Ryan an action hero and not an analyst. <br><br>Most of Clancy&apos;s books are smart military political thrillers, not action stories. <br><br>It stings more than it should because we have such a lack of those types of movies/TV shows. Faithful adaptations of the Jack Ryan books would be a huge success but Hollywood cant help themselves.

One of the central themes of the book is Ryan questioning himself as being any better than Miller, particularly after the kill squad is sent to Africa. By not killing him, Ryan makes the choice to be the better man. It&apos;s almost the entire point of the story. <br>But Hollywood demanded... Anchors Away!

  I think one of the problems is that novel Jack Ryan is a Boy Scout. Very clear cut morals and no action hero at all, the tension arose from other characters around him. I always loved reading John Clark segments better than Jack Ryan. And that’s aside from Clancy’s politics expressed in the novels.
