Had TKR June 12 2026. Day 2 through 5 was the worse for me but I came off all pain meds day 6. Night time was bad and couldn’t sleep for at least 30 days.Took it easy for two weeks besides my daily therapy used my walker and switch to my cane. July 30 I have 122 degrees bend and almost straight, some days I’ll have 9000 steps I probably am doing to much, I still have some swelling but doc says I’m doing very good, doing my own daily therapy at home and have zero pain when I walk and stand, before surgery I had constant pain 24 7… TKR was the best decisions I’ve ever made!!!

Ok, I wish I had you on my team, both pre and post op! The info I got prior to surgery was sketchy, even though it was a formal joint class. Your instructions are clear and so reasonable, I’m on the doing too much side of the fence and I got easily discouraged over this common mistake. I appreciate your time in helping those of us who have struggled through those first 2 weeks in the dark. Cheers!

Physical therapy is so important. They help in recovery and help with swelling.   What you said is exactly what happened to me.

Dr your explanation it’s 100% accurate. I just had my knee replacement last week. Today is the eighth day exactly what you’re saying it’s been happening to me. I had no regrets and I’m pretty sure I’m gonna come out as a winner. People just listen to this  if you’re not a doctor or you’re not a surgeon you’re just a patient obey at all costs.

Thanks so much! Mine is scheduled for September. I'm doing lots of prehab and learning all I can. I love your "dip not a detour" comparison!! Many thx!

8 weeks out tomorrow.  Definately good info here. First few days I was feeling ok, blocks were working.  Week 2 swelling showed up.  Lot's of ice and elevation that week to control it.  Used my meds as directed, walked when I could; even small trips, like to the bathroom, were wins.  By the end of of week 2 I was using the cane and swelling was down. Weeks 3 onward I turned the corner and progressively got better.  My biggest surprise was how much my leg bruised. I was black and blue on my calf, leg, foot, etc. Called my Dr to be sure it was normal. They asked for pics and after seeing them assured me it was.

I’m a ‘knee replacement’ waiting to happen.  I’ve had two cortisone injections from my ortho doc in the last 6 months.  I’m going to do the shots until they no longer work.  I’ve saved this video to consult with when the time actually arrives for me to have surgery.  I’m 83, (f), walk 14,000 steps daily and in excellent health.  I know I’ll be anxious to get back to regular living, but will review this video and hopefully do well post op.  Many thanks

Glad I'm not the only one who was out there trimming the bushes in the first two weeks...
