Did this help any misconceptions that you had about knee replacement?

I just had both needs done and I’m 58 which I’ve seen this video years ago. Been suffering since I was 35 and definitely has changed my life.

Had a right TKR in July 2024 after trying braces, injections, TENS machines, PT all after being bone on bone for 11 years. After enduring debilitating pain, and unable to tap dance unless I wore a TENS machine and two braces, and could no longer walk without going lame, it was time. Best decision. Now six months later, I can tap and walk and do all the activities I love. Best decision ever.

I am 68 and had both of my knees done in 2023. It was the best decision I ever made. I may not be in the 1% group, but I was close, and I think I know why. I am a mover and not a couch potato. When others are sitting, I am standing and doing stuff. Even after my surgeries, I was back to work in a week and a half. I didn't "slave" out my family either, if I could do it myself, I did it. PT was difficult for the first knee but the second was super easy. As of right now, I have zero pain in either knee and have almost complete range of motion. The only limitation I have is going up and down stairs. Going up is not 100%. It takes effort but it is not painful. I would describe it as "deliberate" effort. Going down though is much more "deliberate". It takes concentration not to take a misstep. I do think it's getting easier and over time, hopefully, going up and down stairs will become more natural. The last issue that I am struggling with is getting down on my knees. It doesn't hurt but it feels unnatural. My brain is telling me not to get down, so I must force myself. My surgeon tells me it will not improve but I will not hurt myself if I get down on my knees. One last thought, I have met and talked to a lot of people about having the surgery and those with private insurance seem to be a massive roadblock, but I had mine done with Medicare (A & B) with a Plan G supplement. Paying about $ 450 a month. My out of pocket for both surgeries was less than $500 each (if that).

Total left knee meniscectomy at age 12 (Dr said it looked like spaghetti) back in 1981…I was a ice hockey player with extremely strong knee joint and musculature so I made to 57 before I just had TKR. 4 weeks after operation and flexibility is good at straight and 100 degrees. Looking forward to gaining strength, getting some sleep and eventually getting back on bike. Pain is only temporary, push thru with support and take your drugs.

Never get a knee replacement unless you have a second opinion.

Thank you. I'm 56 and getting a replacement next month. Bone on bone and blow legged on that side. I first had worried I didn't wait long enough. I would say it's time.

Finally some helpful information and not all the Google educated neighbors and friends. Had my knee replacement 2 months ago. I now realize pain and swelling is normal and nothing I messed up with my actions. And never compare yourself with others. It’s not a competition. Thank you so much from Switzerland

I had my left knee done at 63 on  7/24/24, and it was the best gift I could give myself. I was pain-free for less than a week after, if that. Physical therapy was wonderful and helped me in my recovery. I am so ready to do the right knee and will plan this as soon as possible, and then the "SKY'S THE LIMIT FOR ME."  Keep up the good work, Dr. Rosen, your information is PRICELESS!!!
