I would have LOVED to have slept well prior to surgery, but I couldn't because my knee pain kept me awake!

Had TKR 14 days ago. I love my sleep and have a great setup for sleep in the bedroom. But was told that I should get used to sleeping on the couch while propped up. For the first ten days I decided to sleep in bed, on my back propped up with pillows. Sleep was tough, waking up dozens of times over the night because I always ended up on my side and knee was being agitated and in pain. Finally decided to try the couch. Have a nice chaise lounger and surrounded myself with pillows. I had no option other than to sleep on my back and propped up. Sleep has been so much better! Getting long stretches of three to four hours of sleep in between pain meds. Maybe it wouldn’t have been the same closer to surgery if I went straight to the couch, but glad I made the change. Been dealing with excessive swelling but that seems to also be getting better since switching to the couch (or it’s just another coincidence).

Excellent job doctor, thank you so much! Five days post-op from total right knee arthroplasty. Had to forgo narcotics but found that Tylenol PM works fairly well. Apple Watch Sleep Score is abysmally low, so I'll incorporate your guidance into my daily routine in hopes of improvement. Appreciate you & your suggestions!✌

9:29 Doc sure wish I had seen this video before I had my surgery in on August 5 at the VA center in Nashville lotta good advice in here than I wish I had known didn’t plan very well for when I got home and that was Self as a challenge because I’m by myself but your advice on preparation I’m definitely taking an effect when we do my left leg and you’re right sleep is one of the toughest things I have to do with and you’re right I don’t go to bed until I’m ready to go to bed Doc. I want to thank you for this video. I hope other people enjoy it too because it really makes good sense to me.

So true. I'm 8 weeks post op and I cannot get comfortable. I sleep on my side and keep my leg straight. I cannot sleep on my back. I find myself also sleeping on my side with my surgical knee bent with a pillow under it. I wake up every time with stiffness and slight pain. I'm meeting my extension and bending goals but still stiff.
