  All I could do was laugh. I&apos;m a new rider and I have experienced this. Not at a gas station, but at a recreation center not far from my house. I lack the experiences and knowledge, so I mostly listen. I have just under 5,000 miles under my belt. Never rode a motorcycle of any kind in my life. One day, I decided to sign up for an MSF/BRC. I bought my first bike 2 months later. It&apos;s like an entirely new world. Everything falls away and it&apos;s just you and the bike, living in that moment. One of the best decisions I&apos;ve ever made.

  Very typical of my 50 years of experience. &nbsp;Met people from all over the world at stops. &nbsp;One exception is the jackass on a Harley with stub pipes revving his engine over and over. &nbsp;Don’t forget his blaring stereo playing some gawdawful noise. &nbsp;He gets a scowl.

  Yup... &nbsp;Now, pull up riding something that virtually nobody recognizes. &nbsp;I have a Honda NM4. &nbsp;That in itself is rare as hell. &nbsp;Add to that the fact that I&apos;ve highly modified it as a very capable pocket touring machine. &nbsp;Yes, it has the marks of miles and there is that Iron Butt plate backer. &nbsp;The credentials are there, but its unlike anything on the road. &nbsp;So, there you have this Batman or Judge Dredd looking motorcycle outfitted with proper touring kit and then when you look closer, you get really confused.... &nbsp;There are floorboards, but no shifter and no brake pedal. &nbsp;It&apos;s a DCT, so shifting is automatic, or on the left hand. &nbsp;I HATED the brake pedal, so I deleted it and plumbed in a left hand brake lever off a Honda Silverwing scooter. &nbsp;Instant stuff to talk about no matter where I stop. &nbsp;<br><br>And with only a 3 gallon tank, I&apos;m stopping a lot.

  Aside from pleasantries, unless someone has a bike I am truly interested in, and I want to get their honest opinion of it, I generally don&apos;t engage. Too often I have to listen to somebody&apos;s war stories about all the times they crashed, which they somehow view as admirable (still being alive is the prize I guess).
