  Had a grandmother who was tough as nails, drank a stinking cheap Bourbon and smoked by the carton. &nbsp;She once fell and broke her pelvis and never got it fixed (probably a minor break). &nbsp;I remember as a teen visiting her working as a cocktail waitress in Jackpot NV. &nbsp;One day she was getting ready for bed and simply dropped over dead. &nbsp;When my other grandmother heard, she shook her head and said &quot;a woman who lived as hard a life as she did, had no business dying that easy.&quot;

  this job seriously takes a very special person. i started working at a hospital and one day on my way to my car for lunch, i started smelling the putrid decomp smell. as i started investigating it very obviously came from a specific car. i looked into the front seat, and nothing out of the ordinary... until i noticed an open soda bottle with maggots and flies all over it. looked in the back seat, and sure enough there was a body slumped over in the back seat. being young and naive, i opened the door to try and help the person who was clearly long gone. when you said that smell goes with you, i smelled that smell for the next 3 days. no matter how much i showered or washed my scrubs, i still smelled that smell. very grateful for the morticians of the world who deal with these things so we don&apos;t have to.   When my mother in law died, her face was so bruised from the bi-pap mask the hospital had her on, we expected to have to have a closed casket but the funeral home had her looking like herself so much so it shocked us to tears when we first viewed her privately to approve the work they had done. Wow! Was an understatement in the talent that went into that moment! And we couldn’t express our gratitude enough.

  My uncle in laws brother passed away from diabetes at a fairly young age. At the time of his passing he was living in his mom’s basement apartment. I will never forget the two men from the funeral home who came to pick him up. We were all upstairs comforting the family. We heard the first guy whisper, “ oh no he’s slipping”! Then a thud thud thud as his body hit each stair all the way to the bottom. Most families probably wouldn’t laugh but we thought it was hilarious, and he would have thought so too. Do things like that happen often?

  A few years ago I found a body on my parents property while I was walking through the woods with my young nephew. They have a few acres is semi-rural Georgia, and a man “unalived” himself in a creek bed in their woods. That was the first time I truly felt my blood run cold. Thankfully my nephew didn’t notice and I just had to keep acting normal until I got him inside. After the investigation we found out the man was a veteran with PTSD who had been missing from his family in Idaho for months. He wandered around the country until somehow ending up in my parents woods and deciding to clock out. He had been in that dry creek bed from early November until I found him in late March. He had reached the raisin state. It was a difficult spot to recover a body from and it had gotten dark by the time the mortuary staff got there, but they were very careful and respectful in how they handled the body. It was definitely one of those experiences that sticks with you.
